Interesting, didn't know that. I use to feed both their dog and cat foods. My biggest question is, are they going to take back ALL their manufacturing from Diamond, or only part of it? They use to do their own, then sold out to Diamond to make their foods, and now maybe they're taking it back - Makes me question quality control, as I don't see them doing ALL their manufacturing out of ONE plant.

What is a good food then? I'm guess something with corn in it right?

Don't discount boarded nutritionists unless you have had personal experience. I consulted with one and he did not suggest a food with corn in it, but if he did, I would have trusted him over a dentist or other non vet person on the internet.

Maybe but I'm a sarcastic person :D I have not gone by what a dentist has said I have read my own research and read many things along with my own personal experience. Corn in does not digest well in humans or dog as well as corn has a lot of sugar in it. Serious question here if your vet told you that you should feed purina dog food would you even if though that company is in charge/makes waggin train jerky that has made many dogs sick and killed others?

Maybe this will be of interest. This is what was given to me in my search for a reliable company. This was provided by a boarded vet nutritionist:

I would recommend looking for the following statement on the label of whatever you feed for best assurance of performance of the product. Here is an example:
"Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that Brand X Dog Food provides complete and balanced nutrition for maintenance of adult dogs." (or "all life stages" which would be in the case of puppies or breeding animals etc.)
Here is some additional info on the difference.

Nutritional Adequacy Statement or "AAFCO Statement"
Every pet food label must contain a statement and validation of nutritional adequacy. AAFCO regulations allow two basic methods for pet food manufacturers to substantiate claims.

Formulation Method — Requires the manufacturer to formulate the food to meet the AAFCO nutrient profiles for dogs and cats.
This method is less time consuming and less expensive because feeding trials with pets are not required, only a calculation of the nutrient levels.
An example of an AAFCO statement using the formulation method would be: "Brand ABC Cat Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by AAFCO Cat Food Profiles for maintenance of adult cats."

Feeding Trial Method — Requires the manufacturer perform an AAFCO-protocol feeding trial using the food as the sole source of nutrition.
Gold Standard or preferred method.
Documents the pets' performance when fed the food.

I just posted the advice that I received. :) I chose Hill's Ideal Balance for my pups who are not on special diets.

I personally am really looking into home cooking because of all the pet food recalls and stuff this is just getting terrible. Dosent help that grain makes Callie break out and she can sometimes be picky and stubborn.

Just because an ingredient list LOOKS good (i.e. TOTW) doesn't mean it is. I fed it at one point with no issues but most certainly wouldn't now... I don't trust Diamond at ALL and it's not due to a lack of nice looking ingredient lists. I don't trust their QC at ALL. And this, to me, just proves it.

I have thought of that as well...but it is a lot of work and I am just not sure I could do it. I do home cook for one, but it is because of her medical issues and it was the best for her.

And btw, I didn't always feel this way. But yeah, no longer will I ever feed a Diamond product.

I'd love to homecook but honestly am too lazy LOL... I know me and it wouldn't last. I hardly cook for myself.

I don't have a job because of my anxiety and stuff so I have the time and everything just not good timing because we are looking to move but I'm am starting to think its becoming the only safe option.

I believe it really is the safest option...or shall I say one of the safest.

Honestly, cooking for one is not that bad. I do it and I have others to feed! I put her food together every morning.

I'm not saying whether TOTW is a good food or not it's just a lot of vet recommended foods do have corn. I wouldnt trust a diamond food either to many recalls with there food something is obviously going wrong there.

Ok, I'm putting on my vet tech hat for a minute - I think prescrition diets have a place with ILL animals, but are far from the best. And do you really want to know where vets get their nutrition training and how much they get? It's basically all paid for by companies like Hills, Purina, and P&G, and maybe 10 hrs spent on nutrition if you're lucky in the 8 years of vet school. Of course they'll tell you Hills, Iams Veterinary Diets, Royal Canin Vet Diets, etc are the best - They make a HUGE profit off those foods (and yes, this is coming from someone that WORKS in vet clinics!). But I believe a truly responsible pet owner will do their own research. Dogs are carnivores. They need meat. Some carb is ok and even needed in some dogs, wolves will graze on grasses or vegetation if they feel the need, and corn can be OK for some dogs because it does provide roughage. That said, I don't think corn should be high on the ingredient list at all. It is not a very digestible food source for dogs - And usually used as a cheap filler to raise the protein level with minimal expense.

But as someone said, it's not all about ingredients. Quality of ingredients, processing, equipment cleanliness, storage, etc is equally as important. That's why I don't trust companies like Diamond and P&G. I cried when they bought out several good companies like California Natural and Innova - Even if the formulas had stayed the same, the quality was surely going to suffer. I'm actually a firm believer a well balanced raw diet is by far the most natural and healthiest way to feed any dog, but I also understand why that's just not an option - I know I can't even do that with my own pack, I try to do one raw meal a day, and the other meal kibble, but lets face it - I don't have the time to prepare raw each and every day, and it does take alot of time and skill to balance properly. And if you're worried about not doing it right or knowing what you're doing, a good canned food or kibble will make sure your dog gets the proper balance.
