WARNING! Chicken Soup Dog Food Recall Alert: Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul | Life With Dogs I would highly recommend avoiding any Diamond pet food - So many of them are getting recalled or being questioned lately! Here's a list of all the foods they make. Canidae Pet Food Costco's Kirkland Signature Solid Gold Health Products for Pets Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods Kirkland Signature Nature's Domain (Available only at Costco) Taste of the Wild Pet Foods Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul 4Health (Available only at Tractor Supply Company) NutraGold Super Premium Holistic Formulas |
Taste of the wild??????? I thought that was a good food! Like one of the best! TOTW is what mine eat and I've had no problems. And this was after trying different brands for their pickiness. What is wrong with it? |

Just read the article, trying to figure out what I should do? Try hanging foods again? Dang what is safe anymore? |

I took posters advice from here on YT on different brands and thought this was a better food and brand. TOTW even sent a box of samples while I was trying to see what my 2 would like/eat and which would be better for them. |
Thanks for posting this. Funny that I just receive a box with 8 bags of free samples from NB, I requested these a week before reading about Diamond foods recalls and problems. I do not trust this company at all no matter if the food test came back clean. |

Benjamin I've started cooking for, if I'm to tired to make his food and don't have any stored, he gets Ziwi Peak, Primal Raw, or Canine Caviar wet foods. Aiyana's my hardest - She has ALOT of food allergies, so I keep her on Ziwi Peak or there's some of Canine Caviar's foods she can handle, especially their canned line. Martini gets Royal Canin Gastrointestinal - Not one I'd highly recommend, BUT it's the only food that agrees with her and keeps her stools just right. The other IGs get either Orijen, Canin Caviar, or Acana, I rotate. My Afghans I keep on Orijen with Canin Caviar canned foods. My 2 house guest Yorkies I'm not real pleased with their diet, but upon the request of their dad I'm leaving it alone - They eat Blue Buffalo. |

I didn't know this was a diamond food product. Back to searching again! |

Origen was my first choice but they didn't seem to care for it. All I am saying right now is Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhhh:confused: |

I was shocked when I heard here several people say they don't trust Evangers! I use to feed their foods alot, especially their canned foods, but am phasing them out now. I also do a raw meal a day - My dogs get kibble for breakfast, and raw for dinner generally. Most of them get prey model, little Benjamin gets Bravo or Pinnacle since it's ground, prey model doesn't work well for a 3 lb toothless dog LOL |

There's another thread just started, another product added today. |

I have never fed their food, however, here is the post regarding that recent change: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ood-plant.html |
I have been thinking about this for a while now and wondering when the next recall was coming...guess it is here. :( So scary. |
Taste of the wild is NOT a good food according to our boarded nutritionist. |

Don't discount boarded nutritionists unless you have had personal experience. I consulted with one and he did not suggest a food with corn in it, but if he did, I would have trusted him over a dentist or other non vet person on the internet. |

Maybe this will be of interest. This is what was given to me in my search for a reliable company. This was provided by a boarded vet nutritionist: I would recommend looking for the following statement on the label of whatever you feed for best assurance of performance of the product. Here is an example: "Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that Brand X Dog Food provides complete and balanced nutrition for maintenance of adult dogs." (or "all life stages" which would be in the case of puppies or breeding animals etc.) Here is some additional info on the difference. Nutritional Adequacy Statement or "AAFCO Statement" Every pet food label must contain a statement and validation of nutritional adequacy. AAFCO regulations allow two basic methods for pet food manufacturers to substantiate claims. Formulation Method — Requires the manufacturer to formulate the food to meet the AAFCO nutrient profiles for dogs and cats. This method is less time consuming and less expensive because feeding trials with pets are not required, only a calculation of the nutrient levels. An example of an AAFCO statement using the formulation method would be: "Brand ABC Cat Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by AAFCO Cat Food Profiles for maintenance of adult cats." Feeding Trial Method — Requires the manufacturer perform an AAFCO-protocol feeding trial using the food as the sole source of nutrition. Gold Standard or preferred method. Documents the pets' performance when fed the food. An example of an AAFCO statement using the feeding trial method would be: "Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate that Brand X Dog Food provides complete and balanced nutrition for maintenance of adult dogs."[/B][/B] |

Just because an ingredient list LOOKS good (i.e. TOTW) doesn't mean it is. I fed it at one point with no issues but most certainly wouldn't now... I don't trust Diamond at ALL and it's not due to a lack of nice looking ingredient lists. I don't trust their QC at ALL. And this, to me, just proves it. |

And btw, I didn't always feel this way. But yeah, no longer will I ever feed a Diamond product. I'd love to homecook but honestly am too lazy LOL... I know me and it wouldn't last. I hardly cook for myself. |

Honestly, cooking for one is not that bad. I do it and I have others to feed! I put her food together every morning. |

But as someone said, it's not all about ingredients. Quality of ingredients, processing, equipment cleanliness, storage, etc is equally as important. That's why I don't trust companies like Diamond and P&G. I cried when they bought out several good companies like California Natural and Innova - Even if the formulas had stayed the same, the quality was surely going to suffer. I'm actually a firm believer a well balanced raw diet is by far the most natural and healthiest way to feed any dog, but I also understand why that's just not an option - I know I can't even do that with my own pack, I try to do one raw meal a day, and the other meal kibble, but lets face it - I don't have the time to prepare raw each and every day, and it does take alot of time and skill to balance properly. And if you're worried about not doing it right or knowing what you're doing, a good canned food or kibble will make sure your dog gets the proper balance. |
I just had to put this out there dogs are omnivores and cats are carnivores. |
