| Addison's Disease My little 3yr old yorkie was recently diagnosed with Addison's disease. She now has to take a steroid daily and a short once a month for her electrolytes. Does anyone else have a dog with this disease and any helpful insights? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | My Wylie has basically the opposite of Addisons (he has Atypical Cushings), which means he has high steroid in his system, and we have to medicate him to keep it down. Whereas you have to keep your baby's cortisol up. Just wanted to lend you some support . With keeping your kiddo's cortisol up, she should do very well! Welcome to YT!

| My Halo was diagnosed with Addison's almost 2 yrs. ago. She takes prednisone daily and has her shot every 25 days. In addition to that, she has a thyroid problem and takes a pill for that everyday. He has been doing great since her treatment. My advise; moniter her food. The steroid will really pack the weight on if you're not careful, and it also makes them drink lots of water. Halo is a big girl about 11.5 lbs. I feed her about 3/4 cup of Chicken Soup Light per day; breaking it into 2 feedings. I have 5 other yorkies, so I do feed her behind the baby gate cause she'll eat her food then go after the others. Good luck with your baby.

| Thank you for your helpful hints everyone. I am changing her food to Science ID since her brother (bichon) has IBD. I feed them x2 a day because they were both kind of on the skinny side but I know that can change easily. Graice weighed in at 6.5lbs when she was sick so I guess we'll have to watch that also. My babies I love them no matter what's wrong with them. |
