| HELP: Lump on abdomen...normal? My yorkie is 5 months and she has a lump on her abdomen. She just got her rabies shot 2 days ago and this just came up today. It feels hard under her skin but it doesn't seem to bother her. Have any ideas of what it might be? |

| It could just be where the vaccine went in..mine had that for a few months' after their rabies shots. If it's pliable, and doesn't hurt them, and is about the size of a pea-maybe a little larger, I wouldn't worry too much. Wait a couple weeks and see if it gets smaller. If it does, and then disappears, it's the vaccine.

| the thing that would have me worried is that they usually get their shots between their shoulder blades, NOT their abdomen.... it could be a small umbilical hernia... can you take a picture of it?? if it is this it can be fixed when she is spayed. |

"Funny you should mention the lump, I just had my senior, Spanky checked for that very same thing. This is what the Vet told me. All the ribs are connected to the central sternum, except for the last one or two. These float free and have cartiladge tissue on the end, which usually "points" inwards. However, in some cases, it grows outward and can be felt under the skin as a very definite lump. This might very well be what your Yorkie has. I know I got such a fright when I first felt it on Spanky, but my Vet assured me it was nothing to worry about. Hope this helps," Lauren

Good luck with Peeka; I know you must be worried, but take comfort that there are many relatively benign/harmless conditions that can cause a lump. Please keep us updated after the Vet's visit. I hope your diagnosis is as simple as ours was. Lauren

| UPDATE: the vet said b/c of his previous hernia surgery, he may just be developing some natural fat/scarring around the area. But as long as it doesn't get bigger, it shouldn't be a problem. Yay! |
