YT Addict | Bentley does #2....ALOT! Is this normal? I feed him 1/3- 1/2 cup of Blue Buffalo dry food for small breed puppies daily. He eats it all in one sitting and then it seems like he poops throughout the day like a LOT! I just don't understand where it is all coming from lol! Dolce was not like this at all when she was his age. But then again, the way she eats is she picks at her food all day long. I had to leave her food out for her all day because she would never eat it all at once (this has changed since we got Bentley, now she eats it at once because she knows if she doesnt that Bentley will try to eat it lol). Anyway, is it normal for him to be doing #2 that much? Should I be worried? It's not diarrhea but its not really hard either. It seems like normal puppy poo to me lol. It just seems like we are finding big piles of #2 every couple of hours and we just don't understand where it is coming from. He is 3lbs now at 12 weeks old (he's a little pudgy boy i can tell already hes gonna be a big boy lol). Any advice or words of comfort will be helpful thanks!

| I've heard of issues with BB in the past. It works great for some dogs, others have lots of GI upset and digestive issues. Have you thought of trying a different food?

YT Addict | I think I might, the breeder had him on royal kanin for small breed pups, but he had the same issue with that food. I'm not sure what is another good food? I use Blue Buffalo for Dolce and she loves it and doesnt have any issues with it at all. I saw an ad about Biljac food (I think thats how its spelled?) they have some new food that has good ingredients and supposedly is so good that you don't really need to mix the food when you switch their food to it? Have you heard of that?

| You may be feeding him too much. Try 1/4 c. Twice daily. Pick it up after 1/2 hour if it's not finished. Dori is 7 lbs. And does great on TOTW.

| Cody, my 13 pound 22 month old, has been on Blue Buffalo, puppy then adult small breed for most of his life. He has always pooped 3-4 times a day. Prior to BB, he was on California Natural Puppy and Natural Balance and his poop schedule was exactly the same. Cailee is my big 4 pounder, 6 months old and has been on BB puppy. When I got her she was 2-1/2 pounds. She has always eaten up to 1/2 of BB; her schedule is 3 times a day (she was on Royal Canin before BB - same schedule). I've recently switched both my pups to TOTW which is grain free to see if will help Cailee's eyes. She eats more of the TOTW (a little over 1/2 c.) and her schedule hasn't changed. For my 2 cents worth, I think as long as he is pooping little logs instead of loose, I wouldn't worry. I feed Cailee 3 times a day (she tends to eat more in the a.m. then the rest of the day) and while she is this young I plan to give her as much as she wants. When she gets a little older, then I'll worry more about how much she eats.

Are you looking for something to purchase at Petsmart? They sell Innova there now, and while their company Natura was bought out by Proctor & Gamble - I still think it's a good food. They also have Wellness there now. In the mean time, if you want to stick w/ BB, you may just try to reduce feeding a bit. Oh and spread out his meals. Maybe give him 1/4 in the AM and 1/4 in the PM. I can't recall what is appropriate for a growing puppy, but for reference Jackson, my 16lb active adult, gets 3/4 cup per day. Usually 1/4 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening. He usually poops in the AM and afternoon. Occasionally he'll poop in the late evening, but usually it's just twice per day. He does get a bit of canned food as well as a few treats (low calorie/fat soft n chewy Buddy Biscuits).

Second question, I took Bentley to the vet the other day and he weighed in at a whopping 3lbs at just 13 weeks! lol he's a little fatty patty. At what age should I start really worrying about his weight and deciding to cut back his food if need be? Dolce has always been just the right weight, not too skinny and not overweight. She doesn't eat her food all at once though, she has always been a picker (she picks at her food all day long, takes 2 bites here and 2 bites there) but she does eat all of her food each day. (I feed her 1/4cup of BB for small breed adults whitefish flavor). I had to go through like 5 different brands of foods before I found one that #1 she liked and #2 didnt' leave her skin so dry (along with adding a small amount of omega supplements to her diet). Third, thank you to everyone who posted comments! I appreciate all the feedback! Im still learning a lot about yorkies and puppies in general and am learning new stuff everyday! All of your feedback really helps! Ok so scratch the BilJac lol. I had no idea about the addictive sugars in it! That's crazy! I also am not biased to Petsmart either. I actually started to buy the Blue buffalo at petsmart recently just cuz it was a dollar cheaper than the store I used to buy it from. I usually shop at the Pet Club Natural Dog Food Store. I will try splitting his food into two meals. 1/4cup in the morn and 1/4cup in the evening and see if that does anything. I was just so used to leaving a bowl of food down and not picking it up cuz of Dolce because if I leave her food down for just 30 minutes she won't have hardly eaten anything at all and I'm afraid that she isnt eating enough and will get low blood sugar or something. That's the only thing that scares me. But with Bentley he will just sit there and eat whatever I put in front of him so I have no worries with him. Question though, If i feed him in the morning and then not again till the evening, will his blood sugar be okay throughout the day while im at work? or should I leave just a little for him to snack on throughout the day? Sorry for the 20 questions! I just worry alot! lol

| I think at 3lbs and 13 weeks, he'd be fine during the day. If you are worried, you could always fill a Kong with some kibble and seal it with frozen yogurt, etc, so it keeps him busy and he's eating a bit throughout the day. Jackson was a big boy -- he was already 6lbs by the time he was 12 weeks old. lol. He's now a healthy 16lb adult. I wouldn't worry too much about him being "fat" or anything - rarely are pups actually overweight. If he acts hungry, feed him. But a lot of dogs will act starving even after they've just eaten. So I think it just depends on the dog. I wouldn't go over 3/4 cup per day personally. It looks like the bag recommends 1/4 - 1/2 cup per day for puppies 1-3 months old and 1/4 - 3/4 cup for 3-5 months old that are going to be 6-10lbs as an adult. Oh, TOTW = Taste of the Wild.
