The issue is finding a qualified surgeon with experience with this particular surgery and on our little ones in my area. Linda (ladyjane) has been a life saver in the search. She is amazing....I knew nothing about this and to be faced with it, is overwhelming.

That's a hard one because of the experience level they need to have. Did you/she find somebody? The Virginia/Maryland vet school? OSU wouldn't be too far from you.

I feel terrible. I haven't seen your thread until now, since it was in the health and diet section and I seldom go there. I've read through the whole thread and I'm sorry she's been diagnosed with AAI.

I feel so bad for you and your lil girl having to go through this, but I know you will have the best of care for her. My heart goes out to you at this time and I'm sending prayers for her.

I just found it, both are about 200+ miles. Do you know of the experience level of either Penn or VA?

One thing I just noted about them is that they have more neurologists at VA.

I guess I'm partial to Dr. Sisson at Angell but I know Boston is too far a hike. He made a great impression on me and is someone I would trust completely. He treats my Teddy, and he is a neurosurgeon, I could email him and ask him if he has an recommendations for someone in your area who has experience with AAI surgery in toy breeds. I don't know that he would give us an answer of someone but if you want me to try asking, I will.

That is actually a great idea! My vet recommended one, but he is in Rochester....way too far.

IMO, this is a good idea. Dr. Sisson is one of the best there is.

I don't have any experience with OSU or Maryland. They both could be options though. I'd just figure out who has the better success rate, really. Who has published on this particular problem (showing that they hold a special interest and are likely to be very good at what they do)? etc.

No experience with Penn either. And MSU (besides being far) - not even sure they have a neuro. Also UT may not be too far from you. And depending on where you are in WV, there is also NCSU. Not to overwhelm you more, just more options.

I'm so sad to hear this about Zhoie. I can't even imagine how frightened you are. I know you will find the best place possible for her and I am sure she could come through just fine. I know nothing about AAI but wanted to wish the best of luck. I will keep checking this thread for updates. Little Zhoie will be in my prayers tonight.
