| scooting-not anals If you've been reading on here recently, you know my frustration with Latte's scooting. She had a full workup about three weeks ago and it came back all fine except for a "vaginal infection". (She was raw around her vaginal area from scooting on the concrete!) She did well on the antibiotics and a long-acting anti- inflammatory. A week later, she was scooting again. So we tried an anti-fungal for possible yeast infection. She was doing ok-just scooting randomly and still a bit itchy. Today she's back at at and she looks a bit raw on the skin around her vaginal area again. The vet said that it was not a problem with her anal sacs and I've changed her food to no grain. I had kept a log for weeks trying to figure it out and I could find no pattern at all! Does anyone have any ideas? I'll be back on the phone again tomorrow with the vet's office. |

| When Latte scoots, has she just been groomed? Sometimes if the hairs are cut close, they get itchy from it. Hope she's feeling better. |

| groomed? Nope, not as such-I gave her a haircut today and trimmed her anal area but that's it. And that was this morning. She started scooting really badly after our walk, which we do every evening. She didn't poop, just peed. She is in her kennel now with a pillow case, so he can't irritate the area too much. I put some Neosporin on the red spots. There is no pattern to this--that's why it's so frustrating! |

| After a walk..Hmm, wondering if it's somthing environmental. Did the vet think may allergies besides grains? If she's this itchy I'd be wondering if the vet could provide some Benedryl just until you figure out if this is a food or environmental thing...

| It sounds like the vaginal issue is a product of scooting and irritating it, but are you sure that didn't start itching first and then she started scooting to scratch it? Itchy butt could mean: Anals Worms (when was last fecal?) Fleas Allergies Hair issues

| Is she itching/red anywhere else? Just a few thoughts... Oral antibiotics worsen yeast infections, so oral probiotics might help. If the antifungal was given orally, maybe an external cream would help. Hope she feels better soon.

| scooting I believe the only thing they didn't do was a fecal. I think I"ll get a sample tomorrow morning and see if I can drop it off. The anti-fungal is oral. I was thinking it was getting better, but something is still bothering her. She's always had a combo of environmental and food allergies. |

| Just an FYI... Probiotics are said to be very helpful for allergies. Maybe ask the vet about it when you bring the fecal... Poor baby, hope you get some answers soon.

| fecal I will ask about the probiotics. Has anyone else had worms? Would they be visable? Or is it a microscopic thing? I will call in the morning and see what I can do. It is frustrating for me and irritating for her. I feel sorry for both of us! |

| when she scoots is she trying to rub her vulva area? or her anus? Sometimes there is skin surrounding the vulva area which causes a chronic irritation making it itchy and uncomfortable. I know of some who have to wipe around the vulva daily with an antiseptic wipe to keep this under control. Plus keeping it cleaned/ no hair will help if its with the vulva area. If its just the anal area i would also have checked for worms. |

| I am leaning in the worm direction as well. She has never been wormed and I've read that they can get them at any age. I will get sample in the morning and see if I can drop it off to get it checked before work. Thanks for all the good ideas. |

| Is there anyway it could be fleas? Even on Frontline, etc. they can still bite & irritate before dying. I just ask because we've been battling them & Princess had a lot of them on her lady bits. I didn't see them at first but she was very red & becoming raw both from scratching with her teeth & occasionally scooting. The vet said she has a flea allergy making it all the more worse. I wonder if it could be something like that. I looked for fleas for a long time & never 'caught' them and she only had flea dirt come off her once so they were hard to diagnose. Just a thought.

| Good point-I haven't given her flea meds for more than a month now. I have ben known to find a flea, but I was searching this morning and couldn't find anything. I'll mention to the vet tech in the morning. |

| I was only late on the Frontline by days, maybe 4-5, and that's likely when she got them. It wasn't an easy cure, it's been about 3 months, but it's paying off. Whatever it is, hopefully they find out tomorrow.

| I will check the calendar for the last time she had flea meds-but I think I"ll still rule out worms. Can't hurt. She has eaten and is settled down for now. After a vaginoscopy, and urinalysis and anals done, there's very little left that it could be. Hopefully,we'll figure it out soon. Thanks again! |
