| Switched from NB to BB... Should I Switch Back? I was at the pet store and they were out of the girls' usual NB LID Duck and Potato, so I thought I would try a small bag of BB Wilderness Duck. I brought it home and they went GAGA over it. They were picking out the old food I mixed with it and just eating the new stuff I bought BB because it was an alternative I was considering when I first brought Rylie home. In the end, I decided on NB for various reasons. Anyway, I did more updated research on foods and found some even on YT questioning BB now? I thought BB was a great food? I was originally leery of it because of the higher protein content, but I've heard so many do great! Should I be concerned and switch the girls back after this small bag is gone? I have a coupon for 10% my entire purchase and would like to buy a big bag of food when it becomes active. So the question is, will I be getting a big bag of NB or BB? Opinions please! |

| I dont know if this means anything to you, but I bought a can of BB, gave it to Peanut. About 15 mins later his whole body turned red and he was so itchy!! Im not sure what happened but I wont feed him BB anymore. I feed Peanut Acana, he has been on it for about 1 year and doing great! I give him a teaspoon of wet food in the morning ( he doesnt really eat that much and if I dont feed him he will get sick). The wet food I give him is Wellness,or NB. He does good on those two kinds!

| There are always those on here that will bash any kind of food other than what they feed their dog. I say whatever works best for you and your pup. I fed ZoE Royal Canin from day one, came on here and read nothing good about it. But it has worked well for her, she loves it and she's a healthy pup with no issues. We've tried BB too because I received a free coupon for it through the puppy packet at the vet's office. She did fine on it as well. ZoE still eats BB at my mum's house because that is what she buys.

| You are going to hear bad things about every food. I think BB is a fine brand. Yeah, they had an issue in the past (I think it was too much Vitamin K, or something or the other?) but NB has had recalls in the past, too, and are also manufactured at Diamond which a lot of folks have issues with. If your girls do good on it, then keep using it!

| Aren't their formula's pretty similar? When I changed Teddy's food recently I had to pick between the NB LID fish and sweet potato versus trying the BB alternative. It was a close call for me...I think I arbitrarily chose NB. Teddy is doing extremely well on it so I'm happy with my selection, but it could have easily gone the other way. I think that if your dog is doing well on the formula, goes to the bathroom, good appetite, no vomiting etc then I wouldn't particularly worry about it. Was there a particular reason you went with the NB LID in the first place? Did you notice food sensitivities or was that just the first food you picked and worked?

I considered BB in the past, but I went with NB because the protein content was lower and my YT for Dummies book advised against foods too high in protein. I am now more confident in my abilities as an owner to detect if anything was going wrong with them from the higher protein, which I wasn't when I brought Rylie home. In addition, I wanted to have them on NB in case my cat accidentally got into their bowls when I wasn't around or something because she *is* allergic. She has pretty much left their stuff alone though. There were a few other reasons I originally went with NB. For another, BB didn't have the Wilderness brand when I was originally considering it and I really wanted grain free. I thought Wilderness would be good since it is grain free like NB and is also made of actual meat! I think we'll try the BB this time as the big bag and see how they do. We can always switch back. Thank you so much everyone for your input. I really appreciate it. You are all right in that I should do what works best for my girls and that people may have negative opinions that may not apply to me. However, I had a worry-wart mama moment when I saw that suddenly BB wasn't as praised. They seem to really like it so far though and I think their poops are actually better! | |

| JMO. Pick a food that YOUR dog does well on. Some things that I think a choice should be based on (this is if you want to put time into it and not just grab whatever): Make sure that you are comfortable with the manufacturer. Make sure that their quality control is in line with what you want for your dog. Make sure they are willing to honestly answer your questions very thoroughly. Make sure that the testing done on the food (or lack thereof) and the testing done on animals (or lack thereof) is consistent with your philosophy on the subject. And always talk to your vet about what your dog is eating. They see a lot of things and may be seeing trends of food gone bad (I am thinking of a vet in particular that noticed this with a food). They don't have much nutritional training, but most take a class which is one class more than most people on the internet have plus they are students of biology and have learned a lot about the subject anyway in a lot of cases. Don't underestimate their ability to guide you into a good food decision. And when feeding one of the foods with high protein, etc. that are considered questionable, always let them interpret the bloodwork first and tell you if that would be appropriate. If the kidneys are showing issues, it very likely should be a no go. I discuss my diet with my doctor and the same goes for my dogs. We feed Purina and Eukanuba here because it works for MY dogs right now and that is what their vet felt was appropriate for them right now. I think she is correct so far. Sooo, if you and your vet think that BB is appropriate for your dog, then I say go for it.

| I have been feeding TOTW and Mr. Finnicky-butt has been doing ok...but the lady at the pet store gave us a sample of Lotus grain-free duck formula and he goes nuts for it. So now he likes the TOTW bison and venison along with the Lotus. I HAVE noticed that his eyes are watery, so I am not sure if it's the food or from his groom he had done 2 weeks ago...but this food issue has been ongoing since I brought him home last December!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I also say.. Do what works best for your dog! I recently had to put Taycie on a RX Royal Canin diet. My vet suggested it to me because of Taycie is super sensitive. If food wasn't causing GI issues then she would end up with itchy eyes, tear stains, red ears..etc. The changes in her were almost immediate! For now, this is meeting her needs so unless my vet decides to switch, we are sticking with it. She is also Tear Stain free as well! I am so happy with her new food! I think it has been an answer to her prayers
