| Major Shedding (Age 4-5 years) I've tried to do my research before posting this question but I've yet to find any light on our situation. Our male Yorkie, who we believe to be between the ages of 4-5, was given a bath today. After the bath, I noticed that there was a layer of hair all over the bottom of the tub. A massive amount of hair! This alarmed me, so I spoke about it with my husband - he said that right before the bath he had been combing Igor and noticed a lot of hair coming off also. The stuff that I have been able to find on the internet has talked about change of diet, bad dog food, a puppy maturing and loosing it's baby coat, bathing too much, etc... but we are well beyond the puppy stage, he's had the same food (PurinaOne) forever, he gets bathed once a month in an oatmeal shampoo and nothing has changed in our lives lately - so we're at a loss. I'll defiantly be making a call into the vet tomorrow morning but... has anyone else came a crossed this problem in a later-aged Yorkie? |

| Yes I have seen it before. The Yorkie had been ill off and on with an intestinal issue. Then alopecia happened which is loss of hair which they should not do. It could be hormonal(might want to check the thyroid level via a blood test), stress due to illness, not sure what else might cause it but definitely check it out with a good Vet. |

| Many reasons why a dog has excess shedding. Stress/anxiety and diet play the major roll, then there is allergies. Some dogs shed heavy in the fall and again in the spring. Would it be possible your Yorkie is a mix? Since your not sure of his age I just "assumed" he is a rescue, so possibly a mix. You could add Shed Relief each day to his food, also give him Omega 3 in a gel cap over his food. Course if you knew me, you would also know what I'm about to suggest...........get him off commercial pet food and do some healthy home cooking.
