| What is considered Cogenital? I am looking into Pet insurance. There is a line item that states they will not cover cogenital defects. What is cogential defects in Yorkies? is leg perthes and liver shunts considered cogenital? |

| defects I am of the understanding congential means.."born with it"...Legg Perthes is not present at birth ..shunts can also be accquired, but you are going to be hard pressed to get an insurance company to agree. A cleft palate or heart murmur or a hole in the heart is congential, but things that come with maturing as cataracts or bad knees, allergies, chronic ear infections, early tooth loss, kidney disease is not IMO..those are problems that develop and many are genetic. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have VIP too and that's why I bought it in case any of these cropped up. I have had an Xray of Cali for collapsed trachea and it shows she did'n't have it so it shoudn't be considered congenital? |

| When they did the x-ray they are looking for a reason for problem. The x-ray confirmed that your dog did not have problems with the trachea so they payed the bill. You dog can not have this as a congenital problem cause it was shown negative with the testing that was done. It is just like your insurance when you start work at a new company- it may not cover pre-existing conditions. problems/diseases that you had before the new insurance became effective. |
