If you have a local "health" pet store that sells foods like Acana, Orijen, Nature's Variety,...
They can very often order you a bag of something they do not stock for delivery at their store from their distributor.
Most can not afford to stock everything and are more than happy to order for you something they don't stock. Fee free.
Mine charged me $11.99 for the Chicken A La Veg.

PetSmart cannot order Fromm. You have to go through an independent pet supply retailer.

My picky pup is driving me crazy...I now have 4 bags of dog food sitting on the counter! (Innova, Nutro, Fromm and TOTW.) He ate the TOTW for 4 days and is now doing the picky thing again. I think with him I need to have a couple of flavors because he gets bored with a food after 4-5 days. I guess he will eat when he gets hungry enough! Any suggestions?

I don't think 4-5 days is enough time to even see if the food is sitting well with him. It can take weeks for a food to affect their system.

Believe me, I am all for finding a palatable food that Jackson enjoys. He tends to be picky. But there also comes a point where enough is enough. I always mixed wet food in or something yummy in his meals to get him to eat.

But I have learned through his recent illness where he can no longer have treats, etc, that dogs are adaptable. He now eats pieces of kibble by itself as a treat which I never in a million years thought he would do.

Btw, most companies and stores let you returned opened bags of food for a refund with a receipt.

He will eat when he is hungry. Choose one food and stick to it. When you present his meals, be happy and confident and put the bowl down. If he senses you are anxious about him eating, he is going to pick up on that and probably not eat.

Then choose one of 2 methods: have appointed feeding times and put the bowl down for 15 minutes. Whether he eats or not, pick the bowl up and don't bring it back until the next meal time. (I recommend tossing the kibble if it is not eaten because it will grow stale or less enticing in a very brief time, even a few hours).

Second method: leave the bowl down longer. My younger boy Teddy doesn't always eat right away. Sometimes he waits until after our walk or after he gets excited.

Do not give any treats. Do not offer any alternatives or embellishments to entice him to eat. Don't show anxiety or eagerness for him to eat. When it is mealtime, act cheerful, serve up the food in a clean bowl, say "yummy!" and walk away.

Speaking of bowls/dishes, what kind do you use? Someone else mentioned this above that sometimes dogs prefer eating and drinking out of one material over another. Max wouldn't drink water for hours when I first brought him home. I figured out that he as strong aversion to plastic. The instant I offered him water in a stainless steel dish, he started drinking heartily. We recently switched to glass and the boys love their water more than ever.

With Moses, it seems to be all about flavor. I will try feeding him at set times. That works in the morning because we always feed him at the same time. Evenings are a bit tougher coz we sometimes get home from work at inconsistent times! He is using stainless steel bowls, which I clean every time I feed him or change his water. I will also try tossing the uneaten food as we leave it down all day, figuring he will eat when he's hungry. He always eventually eats and I am not really anxious...but it's annoying when he eats a food ok for a little while, then turns his cute little nose up at it! Thanks so much for the suggestions!

Old thread resurrection --- considering the Fromm Duck and Sweet Potato for Joni. From the pics posted in the thread of the relative size of the kibble, it looks like this might be larger than the others. She's 9 months and 5 lbs. Would this kibble size be too large for her mouth? Also, is she old enough to switch to a non-puppy food? Currently on Royal Canin puppy, which she will eventually eat after all possible other food opportunities are exhausted (boiled chicken, blueberries, etc). So trying to find a kibble she will be a little more eager to eat.

I need to see the kibble size, but Fromm is generally small, but it's probably bigger than Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier. From is an all life stages food, so it's suitable for puppies. I home cook for Katie, but she doesn't like eating before I go to work. I leave Fromm kibble for her while I'm out. If she eats it, I give her less home cooked food. I think it's a good food from an excellent company.

So hard to say if it's too large...some dogs do fine w/ a larger kibble, others really do better w/ small. If it is too large, you could always return and/or smash it up w/ a hammer (I know, kind of a pain).

She is old enough now to switch to an adult food, yes.

You could also look into Solid Gold's Wee Bits...it's a nice food for small breeds...first ingred is Bison, which is nice. Another one to check out is Nature's Logic...but not sure of kibble size...but you could always write to them and ask.

The Fromm isn't as small as the RC puppy but it is still small (especially the grain-free) kibble and a lot of picky dogs find it palatable. I don't think a 5 pound pup would have issues with the Fromm duck and sweet potato though and you can always get samples from stores that sell it or online from Lukes (which AllDogBoots linked to above). Also Wellness has comparably tiny kibbles to the RC Yorkshire terrier and RC Xsmall formulas if you check out the small breed/toy formulas. Good luck finding something your pup loves!
