| Donating YT 500 Club Member | [QUOTE=BabyGirl Rosie;3577553]That is good! I hope changing the food helps to relieve the problem. If it doesn't then I would talk to my vet again! Good luck. I sure hope this baby can get some relief.[/QUOTELast night after I got off work, I went home and got Taycie and the Blue Buffalo and went back to Petco. I grabbed a bag of NB Sweet Potato and Venison that she was on before and I gave her some for dinner last night along with breakfast. I did save a cup of BB to transition her on.. but I ended up not giving her any.. Her poops are totally normal last night and this morning.. I just couldn't give her any more of that food.. if it's causing her to be so uncomfortable. She was on this food just 2 weeks ago, and I bought a bag of BB to switch it up.. so.. she really hasn't been on it long. She started showing more allergy symptoms on Monday. I feel like the itching has already calmed down, and her eyes seem less runny. Knock on wood.. but I think... she is struggling with grass and a food allergy.. I do know some of it is outside.. especially when she rolls around in the grass. We will find out as the days progress. Thanks so much for your help. Taycie and I truly appreciate it!

| I switched Riley's food cold turkey.... didnt' do a gradual switch and what I did was cut up some greenbeans.... He has soft stool for 1-day and then that was it. He was good to go. If Taycie has a little soft stool from the food change you could do that.... or a little bit of pure pumpkin. |

| Well the food switch sounds like it was a good thing. You might want to continue with the Benadryl too. Maybe the combination will help her improve!

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Food allergies are pretty rare - they only account for around 15% of canine allergies. That said, it helps to have any allergy dog on bit of a streamlined food (careful about grains, try less common protein source). I'd be more inclined to suspect enviro/seasonal allergies. My Vet Derm does have offices in Salt Lake: Dermatology for Animals

Thankyou Ann! I am going to look into this. Yes, after going for a walk yesterday she had a flare up.. I really don't think its the food, I am just trying elimate everything before this happened. But, after watching the news and how horrible allergies are here right now.. I truly feel its enviromental. Yesterday I stopped by Walmart to pick up more Benadryl and allergy meds for me.. Needless to say, I left with nothing! The shelves were bare! They had a few odds and ends but nothing that I wanted and as far as Children's Benadryl it was completly gone.. Today she is doing rather well. I scrubbed my apartment yesterday.. Hoping to control everything. Mopped floors, washed walls, Washed every blanket and pillow, I was busy! But I think it helped Needless to say, I truly feel bad for animals and people who struggle with allergies. It's awful! Hopefully this will pass soon!

Not sure how others feel about me doing this, but chime in if people want to share thoughts about this . If people really want it posted permanently, I'd be willing to add it to the allergy thread in the Library. If too many are against this, then I'd probably continue my current route.Edited: if you do go to that Derm - see Dr. Lewis if he does travel to that office; he travels to many of his offices. He is fab!}

| I'm so sorry to hear of these issues. Grass allergies are very common. Are you washing her paws after every outing?

Yes, I got some wipes, and it really is helping. I wipe her off the minute we get inside. I wipe her paws and her little body. I also have some in my car, if we are out. I have eye drops that I also keep handy and that helps her eyes. Today, is a good day. She is doing really well!

I just talked with a tech at that office. She was very helpful. She told me also to try Chlorpheniramine. She said buy a 4mg tablet every 8 hours and she could have half a tablet 2-3 times a day. Have you heard of this? She said it would be by the pharmacy, and its over the counter.

. Hmmm...our vet and derm also recommends Chlortrimeton (sp?) every 4hrs...but I'm not sure about the one you mention above...it may be similar to the Chlortrimeton, but I'm not sure...EDITED TO ADD: Just figured it out...you're using the generic name and I'm using a brand name for the Chlorpheniramine; either is fine, as long as the dosage amounts are the same, which they always should be)

| I agree with using Oatmeal Shampoo.... we had a schnauzer that was allergic to grass and it really helped soothe her skin. We also used an oatmeal spray that we got from the vet. Hopefully if she continues with allergy issues (& hopefully they get MUCH better with meds, diet, & staying away from the grass), you can give her some relief, too.
