Food storage container - what kind?

Some time ago I researched this same question. And I remember coming across two things that stood out to me.

One was that you should never store in plastic, only in ceramic, glass, or metal containers with a sealed lid.

Well, that's out of the question for me.

The second thing I read was that you should never remove the food from the bag it's packaged in. The bag itself is "supposedly" designed to retain the foods proper texture. ie: My TOTW would get dry when I'd remove it from the bag and put it into a big tupperware container.

So now I keep it in the bag and clip it shut and then put that in a plastic container. And the food keeps that oily type consistency. And my dogs will eat the last bite as quickly as they eat the first bite of a fresh bag.

I always felt the food would get somewhat stale and often my dogs would not eat the last quarter of a bag of food.

I would also make sure that the plastic container is approved for food storage.... otherwise chemicals could leach into the food...

This is part of my dilemma. I can't find anywhere on the "Pet Food Containers" where it specifcally says they're approved for food storage.

I've always kept my pet food in the original bag and then clip it shut and put that inside another container like you do, Sherry. But I also can't find a quality "Pet Food Container" with dimensions big enough to be able to do that. I may just have to get another Rubbermaid from Walmart.

I believe that some bags (the actual bag itself) are treated with preservatives, instead of putting it directly in the food.

I first read about the glass, ceramic, SS storage when researching about LS, to prevent their livers from having to remove more junk, but I don't want my normals (haha) ingesting junk either. So what's good for LS is good for them!

I believe as long as the food is in the bag it came in, then bag and all is placed in the container, it should be fine. The problem would occur if the food came into direct contact with the plastic...

I store ours in a glass container that I picked up at Walmart in the housewares department. It is really big with a heavy glass lid. It reminds me of one of the big glass containers in a dry goods store in the old movies. It sits right on my counter.

Bonnie...I hate to say this but I buy the smaller bags of food just for that reason. I pay more, yes. But I can store it better. The inside of the TOTW bags has a coating on it. Maybe all bags don't? IDK?
