| YT Addict | I would like to know what is a good puppy treat for Abby? She eats nutro natural choice wet and dry food for puppies . I hope this is considered a good choice. I cannot find a treat that a puppy under 5 pounds can safely eat. |

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | When Joey was a puppy, I used plain cheerios for treats; he was given treats for successful pee pad endeavors, as well as good behavior while being groomed. They are great because they are tiny and don’t interfere with meals. Now that he older, I tend to use as healthy a food as I can for treats. He loves thawed frozen green beans, and I even use his regular food for training. It depends on why you are giving the treats, what you are trying to reinforce, and whether or not the dog needs any extra weight. I don't buy any special dog treats for Joey though, most are overpriced, for what you are getting and aren't that good for your dog.

Ham, whether from the deli or not, is considered by many vets, too high in salt.

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree that real food works great, but just not deli meats. A boiled chicken breast can be cut in very tiny pieces, and you don't get the added salt of processed meats.

| We used plain Cheerios and also used Zuke's Mini Naturals treats. This is what we gave as training treats mostly. We also used puppy Milk Bones for occasional treats, however, they are not nearly as good as the Zuke's. |

| YT Addict | I was thinking the carrots would be too hard but I guess if they are diced it would be ok. If they can eat that hard kibble they can eat carrots. Its also good because you always have fruit and carrots on hand so it is always available. |

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Hard foods are not all alike; kibble will dissolve in water, where a carrot will not. This is important because if a large piece of carrot gets caught in throat, it may not go down on its own, because carrots don't soften in water. So your options are to partially cook, or dice like you suggest. Some people use the baby carrots, but even those scare me, unless they are partially cooked.
