When Joey was a puppy, I used plain cheerios for treats; he was given treats for successful pee pad endeavors, as well as good behavior while being groomed. They are great because they are tiny and don’t interfere with meals. Now that he older, I tend to use as healthy a food as I can for treats. He loves thawed frozen green beans, and I even use his regular food for training. It depends on why you are giving the treats, what you are trying to reinforce, and whether or not the dog needs any extra weight. I don't buy any special dog treats for Joey though, most are overpriced, for what you are getting and aren't that good for your dog.
