YT 500 Club Member | New Food I know that there will be critics, but I wondered if anyone has tried the new Purina BeyondOne? We were at the store last week and were given a sample. I thought I would use it as a treat, but Sophie went nuts over it. We had to put our kitty down about a month ago, and Sophie has not been eating very well since. She is on Wellness, but has never really been a big fan and continues to have lots of itchiness. Well, she picks the Purina brand out of the Wellness, leaving the Wellness to sit in her dish. She will no longer eat the Wellness, but loves the BeyondOne. Her poops continue to be very normal. Just checking out there.

| I don't know anything about the Purina Beyond one but the other Purina products have the following listed: By-products, Artificial preservatives According to Dog Food Comparison Chart - Dog Food Ratings of Premium Dog Food and Supermarket. It was given a 0 on this site. I just switched recently from Wellness to Instinct. Rosie likes the Instinct and we are not having any problems. Well, that is as long as I buy the chicken flavor. She don't like the turkey and duck. I would check ratings on the foods if I were you. Wellness is a much better brand than Purina.

| Well, I looked up the ingredients because I hadn't heard of it and I was curious. I was actually surprized by the ingredient list lol, but there were a few things that freaked me out a bit. These are copied from dog food advisor.com who gave it 3 out of 5 stars. Everything honestly looks fine except for the few controversial ingredients - it deffinatly looks miles better than any other Purina product I've ever looked at but here's the "iffy" stuff: The seventh ingredient includes animal fat. Animal fat is a generic by-product of rendering… the same high-temperature process used to make meat meals. Since there’s no mention of a specific animal, this item could come from almost anywhere… restaurant grease, slaughterhouse waste, diseased cattle… even euthanized pets. For this one - the holistic brands use a specific NAMED fat - chicken fat is usually the most common. we find no mention of probiotics… friendly bacteria applied to the surface of the kibble after processing. (not a hugely big deal, you can suppliment, but at the price I'm sure you'd dish out for this food, that would be an added expence that you wouldn't have with something else) Thirdly, the minerals listed here do not appear to be chelated. And that can make them more difficult to absorb. Non-chelated minerals are usually associated with lower quality dog foods. This next one is the only one that scares me and I have no clue on the face of the earth why Purina insists on putting this in every dog food they make, it's irritating honestly: And lastly, this Purina One Beyond product contains menadione… a controversial form of vitamin K linked to liver toxicity, allergies and the abnormal break-down of red blood cells. Your pups probably like it because they put "natural flavoring" in there to make it tasty. I was told by a holistic pet store owner that that could even be from skunk meat. Dogs love the taste of gross things lol and the label only says "natural flavoring", so who knows what it is. Sooo, it's of course up to you, but this is what my little 5 minute research came up with.

| The brand has nothing to do with it- I would never let my dogs near something with menadione in it.

YT 500 Club Member | Surprisingly we have seen an amazing difference in the amount of scratching since she began eating the OneBeyond and not the Wellness. I switched to the Wellness last year to stop the scratching, and it didn't help at all. Although there has been a little scratching, it is nothing compared to before. We had tried several recommended brands with no luck until now.

| Could you try a limited ingredient brand such as California Natural? On our never ending quest for food we tried that. (Eventually we landed on Acana and they've done well) Good luck!! |

Instinct does as well. The scratching could be due to allergies. I understand the limited ingredient diet is better for furbabies with allergies. So, you might think about switching to one of them.
