Questions about heat My little Neenie was never spayed by her previous owner; maybe because of too many possible complications and side effects during surgery. Neenie weighs about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 lbs; she's about 8 years old. How often do the females come into heat and what age do they stop. She's been in heat once since I had her. She only bled very little; I found just a small spot of blood on her blanket on a couple of days. What is the norm?

Dogs go into heat about every 6 months. Female dogs do not go into menopause.

having issues with post heat cycle My little Yorkie is 7 months old and for the past few weeks, she has been doing naughty things to her fav. stuffed animal Yorkie. She will not leave it alone, and just tonight, I hid it, so she didnt see it all day long. Around 6pm, she was acting very weird, she kept on whining, and i would try to pick her up and she didnt want that, and so i would play with her and she would play with me, very excitedly, barking like crazy, and she would not leave me alone, the second i would sit down, she would come and whine, bugging me, and she has never done this. i played with her for an hour, and she also has a dog buddy taht lives with her, and usually plays with her, but not today, she kept on wanting me. so finally i gave her the stuffed animal, and she went on with her business, happy as can be, panting and all. Im a little worried because she is a puppy still and hasnt gone in heat, but is acting like a dog in heat. I dont know what to do. She is set up to get spayed soon. I hope that will stop the craziness with the stuffed animal.

Pebbles is in heat & acting crazy w/the new baby girl She's trying to hump Skittles - my husband is very upset & wants to know if we should keep them from sleeping together. I told him that they're both girls & Pebbles' behavior is normal from what I've read so far - please tell me I'm correct! Thanks.

The 'humping' of the younger puppy may be a "dominance" thing......trying to make her place in the pack...I tried to stop Apple (the chihuahua) whenever she did this to Lil Bit....I would firmly grab Apple around her back and hold her down, firmly but not hurting her...and say "no" and hold her for a few seconds. It really made a difference. But I will say she does have this one toy that she will persistantly go after if the playing gets too wild. I try to keep this toy put away unless I am around to let them play. I did notice Apple acting moody and a bit aggressive just before she went into her 1st heat at age 7 months....she will be one year old tomorrow (HAPPY BIRTHDAY APPLE!!!) so we haven't had another heat since getting Lil Bit. The whole PMS thing is just a nightmare.....be glad they can't handle handguns!!!!! AND.....I NEVER knew dogs did not go through menopause!!! WOW!!! Poor things!

Questions about heat At least now I know that this is somewhat normal - my husband said, "Pebbles is being weird on the baby." My dh (dear husband) didn't like it one bit - of course, I didn't either, but I tried not to make a huge deal about it, I told her to stop & she did - so far so good - wonder what they're doin while I'm at work though!
