It's all very complicated lol BUT, if you're feeding any high quality dog food, you can trust that it's properly balanced as far as protien amounts (where the protien comes from - meat, veggies or grain is what's important), you don't typicaly need to stress over the 25% protien vs. the 32% unless your dog has a medical issue. You do want to watch out for too high of fat content as Ellie Mae said. That's a different story than protient. A too high fat content can cause loose stools, obesity, etc. A good food will use lean meat and add back in just the right amount of fat. Orijen is also nice because it's grain-free. Healthy dogs really have no nutritional need for grains at all.

| Levi ate Orijen Adult (the poultry-based one) for quite awhile and did very, very well on it.

| I would go with Orijen Regional Red (but rotate flavors) or Acana. |

| They may have lowered it. Seeing it's 22% now. I think I remember it being higher. The canned Evo (and Innova) are quite high in fat as far as I remember. 22% is considered normal though a lot of dog foods have a lower fat %. If given the choice, I'd personally choose something a bit lower in fat for Yorkies because they are prone to pancreatitis.

| Another vote for Orijen, I've tried Acana too and Lexie likes both but i'll be getting a sample of the 6 fish next to see how she likes it. Right now she's on Regional Red 1/2 raw |

| What about Acana? We've had great luck with Acana (made by same company as Orijen).

It's a good compromise for me. Same makers of Orijen. Same great grain free quality as Orijen. But it is lower in protein than Orijen so I like it.

| I used EVO in the past (before the P&G buyout) and I've also used Orijen in the past (I believe it was the 6 fish formula). Sasha seemed to eat the Orijen better. Out of the 3, I'd definitely recommend the Orijen especially because of the P&G buyout. Champion Pet Foods (makers of Orijen & Acana) is a wonderful company and I highly recommend their foods. I used to feed Acana to Sasha, but she seems to do so much better on Blue Buffalo Wilderness and I have no complaints with their company either. |

| Buster is on the Orijen Regional Red but we just rotated off the regular Adult. He uses the fish as well but seems to like the Regional Red best.

| orijen puppy food Well.... it's been quite a while since I have visited this site... I recently lost my yorkie Sadie (have cried many tears and miss her something awful) We have decided to get a new yorkie puppy. The breeder has never had a litter of puppies before and to keep this short as possible- he was feeding a "puppy" food to one of his dogs because his vet said that the dog needed to gain a little weight. I am a little hesitant to have him start feeding the baby yorkies a low quality puppy food and more hesitant because once I get to pick up our new puppy, I'll want to start her on a better food. And the breeder said he was fine with me bringing the food that I wanted to feed her. This way she doesn't have to go to a different food after coming home with us and I don't have to worry about digestive upset. I was going to bring the breeder Wellness Puppy and then I went to the store today and a rep that I spoke to there directed me towards Orijen. I am worried that I made a bad choice because it does have a "very high protein content" (40%) and 20 % fat. What if the baby yorkie I have purchased gets sick and the breeder is upset with me. I am clueless what food to buy to bring to the breeder and I need help fast. As I'm bring it to him tomorrow night. I don't want the puppy to be fed Purina Puppy food as I have read terrible reviews on that food. It has been 13 yrs since we brought our little yorkies home. And at that time the breeder sent us home with Hills Science Diet Small bites. I need some advice on what food to start the baby puppy on. I home cook for Samie and I don't really want to do this for the baby puppy. One- cost and two... the puppy should not have any health issues to need to home cook (Samie has early kidney disease) - To be brief about Sadie (as I'm sure many of you may remember us for a while ago) Sadie went into kidney failure 11/8/09. I took care of her- kept her hospitalized for 11 days and we got her numbers to come down (bun/creatinine/phos) and I gave her subq fluids for 11 mos. Sadie never died from kidney disease. She developed a very enlarged heart 1/5/10 I didn't know much about heart disease and I had exceeded vet bill amounts that I never dreamed possible- it's ok- I'd do it ALL over again!!! Sadie went into congestive heart failure on 10/20/10 and had pulmonary edema. I saw her take her last breath on the morning of 10/21/10. I am so heartbroken STILL over her loss and getting this puppy may help ease the loss. Is it bad timing? Not sure. I just know that I found this breeder with some very good quality yorkies and he felt so bad for me since I told him about losing Sadie that he cut the price in half just because he wanted me to have one of his babies. Like I mentioned - he never had a litter of puppies before so I'm sure he is uncertain of a lot of things. I just want him to begin feeding a good quality kibble once she is ready and no longer nursing from the mother. I have a lot of knowledge on great kibbles and garbage dog food... but in this case- I worry that the high protein in the Orijen may cause trouble since it's really high in protein. Maybe I should go back and get the Wellness puppy which does have grains and once we get her home, see how she does and go from there. Yorkieluv, My Fair Lacy, Miko’s Mom... Gosh it’s been a long time!!! I'm sure you will remember us. Appreciate anyone’s help as to what kibble is best to feed a yorkie baby. Please help!! :-) Renee R- Samie and Angel Sadie 12/19/97-10/21/10 and soon to be... 6/14/11 our new baby Bella |

| It's a good food, but my Yorkie wouldn't touch it when I was trying to find a food she liked
