YT Addict | excessive panting=stress or what? So my little guy Pooter has been panting for the past couple days... not ALL day but every five minutes he does about a good 2-3 minutes of panting. He is very playful, he's been wrestling with Tikka, playing fetch with her, and tugowar, running circles around home with her. I just brought Tikka home on Sunday, and just noticed his panting yesterday... it could have started earlier. But for sure I noticed it yesterday and today. He just pants and stares at me, then when I pick him up he pretty much completely stops. He's also been fake barking at me [like little cough barks lol he does that when he wants attention], jumping up and pushing against me, doing his little "i gotta go potty dance aka the pick me up dance" which he hardly ever does. He is a fairly independent dog, before Tikka came he would choose his kennel to rest, or under my chair. Now he is constantly wanting picked up, or on my lap, and even coming into bed as soon as my husband leaves and wanting to cuddle right by my face... which he NEVER wants to do. He would usually pick the end of the bed. Could he just be stressed or anxious? He stops panting when he's playing or on my lap. But if I'm petting Tikka or not doing anything with either of them he pants. I called my vet, but they're closed today unless I want an emergency visit, which at this point I don't think is needed but I am keeping an eye on him. I've just been reading that when introducing a new pet sometimes dogs get anxiety/stressed/jealous and it causes panting. Also: it was heavier today, and last night Tikka howled and whined and barked for almost 3 hours while in her kennel from midnight to almost 3am, so he didn't get a full night of sleep either like usual.

| If it's not from heat, then it could be anxiety. But pain has to be the first assumption. So all I can say is that if a pup is panting every 5 minutes and is not too hot, then it's time for the vet.

YT Addict | He's not panting now, I did a little "test" too see if maybe he was just being anxious/jealous. First I started playing with Tikka, throwing her fetchie and talking to her... immediately, Pooter came running in panting! He has never had a desire to play fetch or with any of his toys until Tikka came lol. Now as soon as he hears a squeaker he shows up! Second, I picked him up and gave him some belly rubs and included him in fetch... and what do you know he stopped panting. Gave them both a piece of chicken at the same time, walked away. No panting. Could it be more that he's smart enough to know his panting makes me wanna pick him up? Ha! Well if it happens again tomorrow, my vet will be open and I will take him in for a check up... I also read it could be heartworm?

| Many Yorkies seek their Mommas when they're not feeling well or something is wrong... best to have a vet check him out. Many also tend to hide when new pups are brought into the house, they get their feelings hurt easily.
