| Tar on feet? So I tried searching using the word 'tar' but came up with nothing. The pups and I went for a walk on a trail and I could tell it was freshly tarred - but there were no signs up, etc., so I thought it was fine. When we reached the END of the trail - there were ribbons up and signs for people to keep off. Lucy and Ringo both came home with tar on their feet. Both have had baths but Lucy is still licking her feet. Is this dangerous?

| I would call either a poison control or your vet to ask what the danger are of Sealcoat on the paws. Personally, I would be worried if Lucy kept licking that the chemical would be ingested.

| I would try to get the tar off. I don't know what kind of chemicals are in it. Can you hold some ice on the tar and let it harden and then pick it off? Like when you get chewing gum on something. If you can't find any solution maybe the vets office or groomer will have an idea. Good Luck!! |

| I think I would check w poison control also. She might also be having an allergic reaction to the ingredients (the paw licking). Is your vet still open that you could call, just to ask the questions in case it is nothing to worry about (or is)? |

| Well, the tar is off but she was licking her wet feet. Let me see if my Vet answers the phone.

| Update Well, as it turns out, tar is not poisonous. BUT, she upset her stomach when she ingested some of it. The poison control folks said if she vomited more than twice - to head to the ER vet. She vomited at least 5 times total by the time I was done talking w/them ~ so off we went. They gave her Sub q fluids and an injection to settle her stomach. No food or water until tomorrow. I can give her some ice cubes at bedtime. She seems perky now and slightly put out that Ringo had his dinner and she didn't get hers. Next time - I'll stick to the trails that I KNOW.

| Glad to hear it is not poisonous, but sorry to hear she upset her belly. Poor little thing. It's good she has such a good mommie to take care of her! |

| I am glad Lucy is doing better. Sorry she got sick! Good info to know, I wouldn't have any idea about tar.

| Sorry I missed this thread yesterday... but for future reference, regular mayonaise will remove road tar, and sandals will keep it off her feet. So glad Lucy is okay...

Lucy is better today; still pretty listless. I just gave her about 1/4 of her regular breakfast and she ate it with no problem. I'll try giving her a little more at lunch time.

| She's being very content to lay on my bed ~ which is concerning me a little. Of course, it's cloudy and drizzling outside so that is when she likes to sleep. But still, she's not pestering Ringo or carrying a toy around; seems very tired. Of course, being sick all last evening and 4 hours at the ER vet - maybe this is how she should be feeling today; I don't know. She worries me to death! She had a little food - separated into two very small meals and a little water so far today. I think I'm going to go out and get her some Pepcid AC - they said give her 1/4 pill if her stomach hadn't settled. I still hear a little gurgling in her tummy so I'm going to give that a try. I'll let her rest today and put the mayo on her paws to night. I'll def have to get that cleaned all the way off though - that's all I need is her licking mayo at his point.
