| coco barely eats... Coco used to be on Royal Canin indoor junior then i switched her to innova puppy and the transition took a week. and she's been eating innova by itself for a week. I feed her a little over 1/2 cup split into 3 meals. (5/8 of a cup is recommended for her weight 2kg and her age 5 months) and for the past week she ate her food no problem. would leave a kibble or two behind. Then starting yesterday her eating habit changed... she would barely eat! for breakfast, she ate maybe 5 kibbles and left the rest. so i put it in her pen before i went to work. I came home around 1pm and she ate half of her breakfast. so i added a little more and left that for lunch. i came home after work and nothing was touched. i took her out of the pen and tried to get her to eat it. but had no luck. so i left the food over night in her pen. This morning she ate half of her breakfast. because i partially handfed her. she is playing and running around no problem so i know she's not sick. I don't know why all of a sudden she is doing this because for a week she finished her food and now she probably eats 1/3 of her daily feeding.

| Have to tell you I am new on this forum. I have an 11 month old picky eater. I have tried canned and dry, regular brands and high quality brands. At first she would eat them a little for a while and then stop. Now she just runs away when I come near her with d-o-g food. She is hungry. She is always trying to steal the cat's food and she will try to steal people food. So I started making my own dog food. She loved it at first, I think because she thought it was human food. Now she will eat it if I hand feed it to her. It sounds like your dog is in the cage a lot. Maybe she needs more exercise so she has more of an appetite. I am trying a grain free dog food next and will feed some raw recipes with it. I am giving her vitamins to make sure she is getting some additional nutrition. I am very concerned about this as the early age is very formative and will effect the dog for the rest of it's life. |

| I have a picky eater too and what I've learned is that they like variety. I just started rotating with Nature's Variety brand. One meal they'll get the raw chicken patties, next the Salmon kibble, then next day I'll give the Salmon kibble with some rabbit canned mixed in and beef raw patties for dinner. This has been the ONLY thing to keep Alice eating every meal with gusto (she has her favorites, but she'll eat them all as long as it's not the same thing at every meal). I went with this brand for this exact reason. All their food is formulated to be rotated through the different flavors (I think there's 5 raw and canned and 6 kibble) and forms (raw, kibble, canned). Alice gobbles down her food now and before I had to beg her to eat. Idk, it's not as difficult as it sounds, I just buy one (maybe 2) bag of the kibble and get a different one with each new bag and I keep 1 of each flavor of canned and 2 different flavors of raw in the house. I've also started tossing in some raw chicken or beef with some meals when I see it on sale - Alice LOVES that. If I'm stuck where I only have one kind and they've had it two meals in a row, I'll mix some plain yogurt or canned pumpkin in until I can get to the pet store and that does the trick as long as it's not all the time. Idk, it makes sense to me, I surely don't want to eat the same exact thing for every meal lol. It's funny, my Beagle mix and the 2 cats will eat anything, never picky, but my 2 pure breeds (Alice and an Akita) look at me like I'm crazy if I give them the same exact meal 2 days in a row LOL

YT Addict | My little girl Tikka is stubborn to eat the food I'm switching her to, so I actually made a little game out of it... I take maybe 20 pieces of food in my hand, 10 of her old food 10 of the new food and I throw them one at a time and say "go get it!" and she eats them like she doesn't even know the difference, then after those pieces are gone she'll go to her bowl and eat the rest until she's full. just an idea otherwise she just picks through her food and leaves all of the new kind of food in the bowl.

| I have to make a game of it too sometimes with my little guy. Sometimes he will just devour it and the next day, just walks away. Also, he likes a variety not the same thing every time. Today he didn't eat a think til this afternoon and I gave him some white turkey meat with a little kibble. Nibbled at that....just wasn't very hungry today....tomorrow it will be different. He is like that. Just a question....at what age are they considered full grown. Jasper is 12 inches long....and weighs at last weigh in 8.6. Just wondering when they stop growing. |
