| To get rabies or wait Well Jett is 21 weeks old, and I know he is behind for his rabies vaccine. I am a little afraid because of his size. He just hit 2 pounds this week, and that seems just so darned little for that shot. I did wait until Bella was about this age to get her rabies shot but she was quite a bit bigger too. I am pretty nervous about this. I know the vet would happily do it, but I am so anxious. Just wanted to know if any of you waited a bit longer for this shot??

| Read this post: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-overview.html Some people recommend waiting until 6 months of age.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I waited with all my kiddos, and luckily the vet didn't push back. I think they all had their rabies btwn 8-10mths. I just feel better/safer about waiting .

| My little guy got his at 6 months when he was just under 2 lbs. I wouldn't give it to them before that.

YT 1000 Club Member | Mine don't get their Rabies shot til they are close to a year old. Thankfully they don't have to be licensed til they are a year old either so it works for us.

| I waited until almost 7 months to get Annie her Rabies. She too, is a little bit. But it is now being recommend (Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs) to wait until 24 weeks/6 months for all pups. This is sometimes contrary to local laws -- but since I keep them home until they get this vaccine, I don't worry.

| Well thanks all, now I don't feel guilty about waiting on this shot. I think I will wait until he is about 8 or 9 months old. I just hate the idea of giving such a little guy so much poison. MAYBE by then he will be close to 3 pounds and I will feel a little better.

| What I would do for mine and what I would tell somebody else to do are a bit different. I'd probably hold off awhile. It would be breaking the law though, so can't really recommend that (can get a letter from your vet to make this legal).. A dog that isn't vaccinated for rabies, particularly without a vet letter, can really pose a problem. If by some slim chance your pup even play nips at somebody in the vet's office/pet store/on a walk (or even another animal), you would be fined and quarantine (with possible euthanasia) would probably happen. So IMO a dog that isn't vaccinated should stay home (which isn't very much fun and probably not too healthy for socialization, etc.).

| whoa! is there a reason why you have to wait that long for rabies? coco is getting her rabies this saturday and she's 18 weeks this weekend. should i wait?? but if she waits that'll prevent her from going on puppy dates with her cousin & her older brother
