| What would you do? According to the vet's scales, Smokey is a tad over 10 lbs, bordering on 11. All of the preventatives I've seen have sizes for 1-10 lbs, 11-20, etc. Since he is about between 10-11 lbs, would you get the size for the 1-10 or 11-20? I'm thinking about doing the smaller one, since he's not quite 11 lbs and I don't want to overload his system with it.

| Personally, I would ask the vet and go by what they say. They will probably recommend the larger one just to be safe- but I am not sure. Is this for heartworm or fleas or both?

| The smaller dose. He isn't 11. He is 10, so that is the one I'd use (if he is the perfect weight). If you plan on having him gain some, then I'd do the next one up. If you are talking about Interceptor, the lower dose should be fine anyway. The dose to prevent just heartworm (and not intestinal parasites) is apparently much lower than what is actually given). Remember though if he goes to 11 and gets heartworm while on the preventative, the company would probably not want to cover the cost of treatment.

| This is for fleas and ticks. I was thinking the smaller one, but I'll give my vet a call tomorrow. The vet says he is a perfect weight for his body shape and size, so he shouldn't be gaining anymore... he's one of those dogs that can eat and eat and eat and wouldn't gain an ounce anyways. I have a hard time keeping weight on him.

I always worry about the heartworm companies covering treatment and heartworm is very serious- so thats why I wouldn't mess with that medicine, even just for a pound.
