| Retained Baby Canines I took Riley into the vet a couple weeks ago for a nail trim and when the technician came back out with him, she said the Vet had noticed Riley is retaining his baby upper canines...... and that they are going to need to be removed. He is 10-months old, now. I had him neutered at exactly 6-months and when I had picked him up the vet told me at that time that he was retaining a couple of teeth but she did not remove them at that time with hopes of them falling out on their own. I made an appointment to take him in tomorrow to have this done. It is $33 per tooth and they quoted me between $200 & $457. I was a bit upset that she did not remove them at the time of his neuter and Hate the thought of him having to go under again and then the discomfort he is going to have to deal with, after. They are going to send me home with pain killers. I have to drop him off between 7 & 8 in the morning and pick him up around 5 or 6 tomorrow night. I am taking off Tuesday to hang with him. I am getting a bit nervous to say the least!!!! Who has had this done and how did your pups come through?? |

| That's why I wait and spay/neuter at an older age so that everything can be done and once and not have them put under twice. One of my boys teeth came in slow and he didn't get neutered until after his first birthday!! Your vet should have removed the ones that were retained back then and then maybe you would have only had a few to remove now. I'm sending positive vibes that your baby comes through this with flying colors!! Good Luck!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Cali retained many of her baby teeth. She was spayed at an ER hospital during a emergency surgery for a possible blockage and needed a liver biopsy, they didn't remove her baby teeth as they needed to wake her up quickly. She did have a mild liver disease so we waited until last simmer when she was 5 and needed a dental to remove all her baby teeth. She did fine. She was only under for a very short time and came home that afternoon and was a little tired but hungry. I will keep positive thoughts for a easy and safe procedure. I had the pre surgical blood work done which I would have done anytime they need to go under. Keep us posted.

| My dogs puppy teeth were removed when they were spayed /neutered so they would not have to receive anethesia twice. I also had a complete blood work up on each one before surgery.

| All you can do is get it taken care of now. It is an easy procedure. Would not be at all happy with the vet not taking the ones she could during neuter. Waste of money and another anesthetic episode.

| I agree. Absolutely needless to risk another anesthesia when could have easily been done then. |

| I dropped Riley off around 8am...yesterday. He was Not Happy that he didn't get breakfast. The vet called around 9:25 and was already finished. Said he was under for about 12 mins. She wasn't able to meet with me to pick him up until 5:30pm. It was a loooong day. When I went to get him the tech said most dogs are groggy the rest of the day but that he was up and ready to go right away. When I got him home, he was STARVING, so I fed him, and gave him a pain pill. I had today off. He got me up at the usual 6am and he was immediately chewing on a Himilayan Chew. He's been acting as though nothing had ever happened. It was $44 for the 2-teeth and then with all the other stuff.... it was a total of: $303.88...... but it's all done, now!! |
