| Both dogs with LP So the vet said BOTH Chip and Smokey have LP. Smokey has it in both legs, Chip has it in just one. Thankfully she said it's not bad at all and almost not even worth mentioning, but she definitely said I should be aware. I was very surprised hearing about Smokey because he has never shown any signs of an issue. Chip does limp on his right leg sometimes, so I wasn't too surprised. She recommended joint supplements which I picked some up at PetSmart. It said to give the dogs 10 lbs and under 1/2 a tablet, so when I tried to give it to them, they wouldn't take it. They both spit it right out even though it is supposed to be Peanut Butter flavored. Today I found a can of wet food I bought last week when I panicked about Chip getting a tooth extracted and decided to try and crush the tablet and mix it in about a teaspoon of the wet food and give it to each of the dogs. They ate it right up! Hopefully giving them the supplement will slow down the progression and help their joints. If anyone has any tips on what to do to keep their joints as healthy as possible while it's still early, PLEASE let me know.

| So sorry to hear that your babies have been diagnosed with this. My hot rod went thru lp surgery, thankfully all is well now. Maggie may was diagnosed with lp, low grade 2 which totally surprised us as she's never shown any signs or any pain from it, she is almost 3. I give Dasuquin supplements. I had a time giving them the pills which I crushed in their food which they wouldn't eat. I tried cheese, luncheon meats, you name it. I just got soft Dasuquin chew and they seem to like. They think its a treat. Lol. dasuquin is like cosequin plus. As for prevention, you may want to invest in stairs or ramps. You want to try and restrict the jumping motion as possible. I know, easier said than done but this will help any impact pressures on the joints that may make them go out of the sockets. Best of luck to you with this. They may never have any issues but prevention is definitely a good thing.

| I'm sorry that both your pups have LP. Sammy has it too in both back legs. (Grade 1) You wouldn't know he has it. He took Dasuquin and didn't like it. So I got him people glucosamine & chondroitin. I can hide it in his food, cheese etc. The vet said to limit his jumping, carry him up and down steps (we only have 3 steps going out). I always carried him outside anyway in case there was a cat or squirrel in the yard so I could shoo them before I put Sammy in the grass. I hope your pups will do fine. Good Luck!! |

| Here is what is on the Dasuquin label. Glucosamine hydrochloride 99% 600mg Sodium chondroitin slate 250 mg Avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) powder 45 mg I get it from the vet. This is a package of 84 chews and I give a half every other day to Maggie. Hot rod gets it every day as he's got lp in his other knee also and since he's had surgery, I really concerned he might need.it again and really do not want to go there.

| i also use dasaquin for my babies, they eat it right up like a treat and are usually really terrible about taking medicine. Chloe is a grade 1 and so far she hasn't progressed at all. I also got her a set of stairs for the bed so she doesn't have to jump all the time, otherwise we have made no other changes.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear that. All of mine have some stage of LP. Cali has grade 4 in both, Pixie had grade 3 in left (had surgery) and Grade 2 in right. I never knew she had it either until she couldn't walk all of a sudden. I have always used ramps and stairs for them. Also keeping them from getting overweight helps. Hopefully with the supplements and limiting their jumping will prevent it from getting worse.
