| Dental issues When I took my yorkie in for a vet checkup I was told that she has one bad tooth. The vet showed me the tooth and it was a yellow greenish color. He reccomends a dental cleaning, a a possible tooth extraction. He also wants to spay her at the same time. I am scared because this seems like a lot to do all at once. I was also concerned because i have heard a bad tooth/teeth could cause damage to their vital organs. Well the vet told me that this happened before I got her, and the damage is already done I do not want to lose my precious little one during a evasive surgery. So I am thinking of just doing the dental first, but then down the road she will eventually need to be spayed , and put under again... I do not know what to do. The grand total for all of these procedures is around $300.00 or more. That was just the estimate. Not including pain meds, antibiotics and everything. I'll get it done no matter what the costs are, I am just concerned that it is a lot to do on her all at once, and she is going to feel awful afterwards. Concerned that she will not eat cause her mouth hurts, and the spay , making her extremely uncomfortable.

| Is this an adult tooth? Sounds like a dental is needed. A spay and dental with one extraction wouldn't be too much to do in a day. There would be risk with keeping her under longer and with putting her under twice. The vet is the best one to make the call. She will be at more risk if that tooth isn't taken care of and she is left wide open for pyometra and mammary cancer..

| surgery teeth Today,my little Midge had 3 teeth removed and teeth cleaned. She came through the surgery just fine. The vet said we will do 6 month check ups,so we can keep on top. I have cleaned her teeth once a week,,big job trying to hold down a 4 pound wild dog. So she just had dinner ground hamburger. And so now she is laying down next to me. Tired and wants her mom,,,, So I hope your little one comes through this with flying colors, cathy |

I'd rather do it all at once. I've heard with the dentals most pups come through really easily. Spays too but of course there are a few re-coop days for that. Most Yorkie pups here on YT get baby teeth pulled at the same time as spay/neuter, I don't see how it's any different.

| Thank you all for your reasurance. That is what I needed to make sure it was the right thing to do. Yes this is an adult tooth, towards the back of her mouth.

| I feel your pain my little girl needs to have two baby canine teeth removed (they never fell out) and she will be spayed at the same time. I have heard it is better to do both at the same time. I hope everything goes well for your little girl! |
