| Getting spayed? Ok so today Silver is 20 weeks and 3 days old and I have absolutely NO intentions of breeding her and the thought has never crossed my mind. So I'm curious on how much longer should I wait to get her spayed? Or is it safe now? I'd like to do it before her first heat. I plan on getting the pre-op bloodwork done a couple weeks before it happens. So yea I just need to know the right time as I am not knowledgeable on this subject.

| She is old enough be spayed now. Kudos to you for being on the ball about this! Most vets around here will spay at 5 months, 20 weeks. I would go ahead and make the appointment with her vet to have the pre op blood work done. Best wishes to you and your little girl during this procedure. |

| I agree with everyone else that she is old enough. My Daisy was spayed even earlier because that is what our vet did back then.

| I meant to update this a couple days ago but got busy and couldn't. But I called our regular vet and spoke to them about getting Silver spayed and they said they won't do it until she is exactly 6 months, so we tried another and they said they only do bloodwork on older animals and that if she goes into heat before they spay her it will cost extra so they were automatically out of the question(considering they won't do bloodwork), and there is only one other vet around here and they said 6 months also. So we will be waiting a month and going to our normal vet who WILL do the bloodwork.

| I prefer to wait a little longer- I didn't have my female spayed until 10 months old. I like to give them as much opportunity to grow and mature as possible. I also like to give their puppy teeth a chance to come out on their own before pulling them during the spay. By 8-10 months you can be pretty sure that they aren't coming out on their own and are going to need some help if there are any left.

| IMO, it's good that your vet is being cautious. No reason to rush into a Yorkie spay at 5 months as long as she isn't around males. Six months is fine.
