| Weight question?? Hey guys, through reading all sorts of different posts I'm starting to get concerned that my little guy is underweight. He is over 10 months now and only weighs about 3.5 pounds. His dad was about 6 pounds and his mom around 7 so I never expected him to get real big however is 3.5 too small?? Oliver is my first yorkie and he is VERY healthy, he eats regularly and has never shown any sign of being ill. I'm just wondering if anyone that has had a 3 1/2 pound yorkie can tell me if they expect him to get any bigger by a year old or if this is normal and I shouldn't worry. Thanks friends, I'm such a worry wort sometimes!!

| Did you check the height and weight charts? What did he weigh when you brought him home? I think the rule of thumb is 3x weight at 8weeks and 2x at 12 weeks... I am sure he is healthy.. so unless he is way off the charts and is eatting I would not worry. Saying that.. I felt the same about remy - she is skinny!! She did gain a couple of ounces the last month (she is now 1 year old) and is almost ..but not quite... 4 lbs. The vet said she is fine

| Your post made me giggle. Most people are concerned when their pup gets too big. Your a good mommy and as long as your baby is eating right, he just might be a smaller one. The parents weights alone aren't good indicators. Oliver's family might carry genes to produce a smaller dog. He still can grow and fill out some. My vet told me they continue to grow until they are 12 months, and up to 18 months they fill out a little.

| Can I tag onto this thread with a related question? If puppy is sick at 12 weeks, and suffered some weight loss, would that approximate equation still apply? (We're currently at 17 weeks, 2 lbs, 4 oz.) I'm with OP, and would like to see her get much, much bigger rather than stay so tiny and vulnerable...but, as I like to say, "it be what it be", I guess.

| My Bella was 8.6 lbs from 12 to 24 mos....I just took her in for her check up and shots last month and she is 9.6 lbs now and she is 29 mos now...Vet told me she feels good not over weight, she did alot of filling out this past year. your baby is only 10 mos he is still a baby and not done growing yet, he will probably put on a few more lbs...I bet he will be a good 5 lbs by the time he is 2 years old and full grown.

| My Razael was only 1 pound 11 oz. when I got her at 14 weeks old, and now she's a whopper at over 7 pounds. She was 4 in Sept. I don't think you have anything to worry about if he's eating the right amount of food. Maybe feed him a tiny bit four or more times a day if he doesn't eat much at one setting.

How your little guy is growing is very dependent on his background. All based on his genetics...he may just be where he's going to be......

| My Pixie did not grow anymore after 8 month except for about 6oz this winter. she weighs about 6.5lbs . I am thinking once the warmer weather comes and she is moving around outside she will go back to 6 lbs. She also has been sneaky stealing Daisy's food! lol winter makes her eat more, I guess I can say I feel her pain in that one. lol anyone for home made banana bread? lol
