| Yorkie standard is 7 pounds and under. They vary quite a bit though. There are 20 pound pure bred Yorkies who are perfectly healthy. So all that matters is that the weight is good for the frame.

| Thank you for answering me. I question his weight because his little body is larger than his head and legs look like they should be. He is also wheezing a bit and acts like he has to cough quite a bit. I know he is an older one and I was looking to get a younger pup but the person I got him from gave him to me free so I took him and will go from there thank you again. |

| He should have a waist that goes in (hourglass shape). The vet will be able to tell you if he should lose weight. You can also take a picture of him from above and post it. We may be able to tell you.

| You should be able to feel the dogs ribs, but they should not feel boney. Good luck with your new little one. |

| Thats what my Beya looks like, I think she is fine my hubby says she looks under weight, but even th vet says this is how she should look she is only 6lbs they have very small tummies and if she eats to much she will get backed up and thats not good. I feed her 1/2 a cup in the morrning and 1/2 a cup at night with an egg. and some snacks in the middle.

| Good luck with your new family member!!!! I've heard between 4 and 7 pounds is an average Yorkie weight. But you also have to take into consideration the build of the dog, tiny, average, big boned etc. I would listen to what the vets says and follow their guidelines about weight. Good luck!!! Have fun together! |

| I have three Yorkies....my oldest is Bailey which is a male about a year old and he weighs around 9 to 10 lbs. Jake is also male 8 months old and weighs 6 lbs. Chloe is female 11 weeks old and weighs not quite 3 lbs. We think she will be around 5 to 6 lbs full grown. They are all precious and I dont think weigh matters as long as they are healthy. Bailey is a larger Yorkie but he is precious and very healthy and beautiful. Jake has a soft coat and he looked like what you explained when he was little because of all the hair. I have him in a puppycut now so he looks so different so maybe it is the hair making your pup look larger. |

| Everyone has given good advise so I will recommend that you take the pup to the Vet to check him over to see if he is healthy. My gang Zeke is 12.5lbs, Zack is 10.3lbs and Zipp is around 8.5lbs and they are 4, 5 and 16 yrs old. Just more to love and cuddle. Bob

| Has he been to the vet? He needs a complete physical with bloodwork. Your vet will be able to put his hands on him and tell you what his ideal weight should be. |
