| Rylie is Getting Spayed My little Rylie goes in for her spay on Friday. Can I tell you I'm already getting nervous? She has her pre-op exam and blood work on Thursday. They offered to keep her Thursday afternoon and overnight for her surgery because some people don't like being inconvenienced by making the drive twice. I politely said no thank you, I don't mind bringing her in again. Really? You expect me to choose to leave my baby all alone the night before she goes under for surgery??? I can't believe people actually elect not to keep their love bugs with them the night before. I love my vet. He's very good, so I shouldn't be worried... but I am. I wanted to get her in for her spay before I have to go back to school. This way I can be with her every second while she's recovering and spoil her to death. <3 I asked if they would be checking for dental needs (like retained puppy teeth) while she was already out and they assured me they would and that it is routine for them. She will also be getting micro-chipped. I printed out the anesthesia protocol thread to take with me to her pre-op appointment. I tried to ask the receptionist some of the stuff, but she didn't know as it is a case by case basis thing. I opted in to all the optional "fees," such as the IV (why you wouldn't I have NO idea). I also already bought a onesie for her to protect her stitches. Is there anything else I should ask about/check in to/have done/prepare for? I want to make this as smooth as possible for my baby. Thanks! |

| Sending thoughts and prayers for you and her. Check on getting her sent home with pain meds? That may be one of the "optional" fees you mentioned. I brought my girls home and realized later that day they had also been given a spay tatoo, you should have saw me freaking out!, so you wanna ask about that. |

The vet said this was to prevent them from ever going through an unnecessary surgery should the unthinkable happen and they end up in a rescue or shelter. I just don't want anyone else to be as shocked as I was~calling people at all hours of the night freaking out. | |

| Will definitely send you and Rylie some good thoughts. She'll do just fine. My Maggie was in a little bit of pain that night but quieted right down as soon as we gave her some pain med. Maggie was a little quiet for about 2 days and they back to her terror self. Rylie will do just fine. Hugs.

Anyway, I'm sure that won't happen to you. It's one of those rare occurrences, and most dogs go through their surgery without a problem.

| Update! Rylie is doing okay and is home now. Poor thing is so out of it! I feel so bad for her. She's not eating/drinking, but the vet said that might happen. I gave her some Nutrical because she hasn't eaten since 9pm yesterday. My poor baby! I cuddled her all up on my bed... I'm just glad she made it through the surgery without any complications. I was a worry wart all morning. Here are some before pics from this morning and after surgery pics... poor thing looks so sad!!! |

| A lot of people just don't really care whether their dog is with them or not. It's just more convenient to leave them at the vet. This is maybe the second time I've heard of the spay tattoo thing. It's not routine. Apparently some vets decide they can make decision for an animal's owner. Very sad. If a vet tattooed my dog without permission..........I don't think they would be my vet anymore! So many vets don't give pain meds b/c it can cause pups to be too active. I suppose that is up to each vet, but I could never go for that one unless a medical problem made pain meds very dangerous. Some can be more sedating than others and those are sometimes good choices.

| Happy to hear that Rylie is home and her spay went well. It is so nerve wracking waiting for that telephone call. I have never heard of a spay tatoo, so I learned something new today.
