| NEED advice Deucy getting surgery tomorrow Alright. I'm dreading this WHOLE thing tomorrow with Deucy. His teeth need cleaned terribly and I put it off due to all the bad vet experiences. I found a vet in Kansas City ...she is the same one who cleaned Baker's (Deucy's son) teeth and Baker came out of it just fine. I took Deucy in for his inital exam/visit Friday and met and spoke with the vet about the anesthesia, etc. She will use propofol (sp?). She said that she hasn't lost one pet since she started using it. She's been a vet for 32 years. She also told me that I should get Deucy neutered at the same time. I know that needs to be done but, he'll have to wear one of those things on his head to keep him from chewing at the stitches. I don't want to leave him alone while I go to work with that thing on his head. I KNOW he'll get into trouble and possibly hurt his trachea. I'm already having doubts about the neutering. Does ANYBODY know what the chances are of a toy yorkie getting testicular cancer, prostate cancer, etc. if he is NOT neutered? I really need some good advice here. HE IS MY LIFE and I told the vet that. ADVICE NEEDED asap.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I know when Cali had her teeth cleaned the vet used propofol because she has a mild MVD and she wanted to take every precaution. So it sounds like your vet is using the right anesthestic. Cali did great and was fine later that day when I picked her up. As far as neutering, I don't know the health risks of not doing it but I think it is better to have them neutered. As far as the e collar, Mom to Hot Rod sells real cute ones that are made of cloth and much better for them. Or you can buy the baby onsies and keep that on him so he can't get at the stitches. I used them on my girls. I know it is so scary to have them go through surgery but it is better for them. I will keep Deucy in my prayers for a safe procedure.

| Success Just a note to let everyone know that Deucy is healing up fine. I didn't even need to use the soft Kiss E collar from Bo. That collar is PERFECT. I highly recommend it!!! Deucy just licked his incision that first day after his surgery. LOVED the vet in KC. Well worth the long drive to take him up there. Her name is Dr. Chaffin with Allcare Animal in Kansas City, KS. My little man is as spunky as ever and his teeth are pearly white. How GORGEOUS!!! I'd take a pic for you all but my camera is broken.
