| Question about grain free foods... My kids were on Science Diet because of poo problems - a couple of months ago we switched them to Merrick's Before Grain with no problems - we wanted to try the Acana because of all the rave reviews - we're trying Acana Grasslands and while the poo is a good consistency they're starting rub their rear ends - like they need their glands expressed Has anyone else had this happen? Just a note - when Moe came to us he had a perfect butt but his butt is swollen the most. We are getting them into the vet just to make sure they don't/aren't getting infected but I don't think they're really familiar with the new grain free foods as I asked her a while back.

| I've never heard of a grain-free food causing anal gland problems? That's odd-- I wish I could be of more help. Jackson eats Acana Grasslands w/ no problems. Hmm... the only thing I can think of, maybe, is that poos are supposed to be smaller yet firm on grainfree foods, so maybe if they're pooping less, their anal glands aren't getting enough of a 'push' or something? I really don't know, sorry!

| I fed Maximo Acana Grasslands for a little over 6 weeks and he had difficulty eliminating at first. His anus swelled a bit from straining. After adding a little wet food, things improved, but not enough for my liking. I decided that Acana isn't the right food for him. Haven't tried any other grain free yet. |

Yea - that's what I was thinking but the Merrick's Before Grain but it doesn't have grain either and they seemed ok on that. Hmmm...? What did you put Maximo on after the Acana? See, this is why I feel bad when others say how bad/good one food is. Some are just not for everyone. Thanks Ladies. I'll still check with our vet.

| I put him back on Fromm Chicken a la Veg. The other problem we had with Acana is that he was gulping his food. With Fromm, he is taking his time again. I don't know if the size of the kibble had anything to do with it. Acana is larger and he got less of it than Fromm. I believe Acana is a great food, but as you wrote, it doesn't work for every dog. Maximo gained weight despite my diligence in portion control and he seemed dehydrated. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with food. We were given a small bag of Orijen yesterday and I gave a couple pieces to Max as a training treat. After smelling and feeling Orijen, I wonder if something about Acana doesn't agree with Max. |

| It could be that the Acana has a higher protein level & the #2 is firm, but small. Foods w/grain give the #2 bulk & bulk expresses anal glands well, but it may not be as firm. So, bulkiness & firmness will be best to express the ag naturally.

At first, my guys all swallowed the Acana w/out chewing too. I think it was bc it was so much thicker & harder than NB kibble. I had to cut it in half w/a scissor. As they got used to it, they now chew the whole kibble on their own.

| As far as I remember, they are about the same size. Levi eats Orijen, but when we switched, I let him try samples of Orijen and Acana. I'm pretty sure they are the same kibble size. I was initially worried about the kibble size, but he has always chewed them with no problem.
