| Kiwi just got spayed! kiwi (my dog) just got spayed today. i brought her home from the vet after she got spayed and i realized that she would occasionally wimper. is that a normal behaviour? is it because shes' in pain? the vet did give me pain medicine to feed her once a day starting tmr. should i be worried that shes whimpering? |

| I really don't have any advice because my female that was spayed back in July never made a sound. She moved slow and laid around for about 3 days but other than that she was fine. I am sure someone else with a different experience will come along and answer shortly. Good luck!!!

| That was the case for us when Maggie May got spayed. She could get comfortable and was whimpering ant crying. We got a hold the vet and we were able to administer medal that mint as Maggie's procedure was done earlier in the day. Can you get a hold of anyone at the vets office? I hope your little one starts to feel better.

| I have three females, Tara (13 year, 7 lb pek), Ally (almost 2 year, 3 lb 2 oz yorkie), and Tia (8 months, 4 lb 2 oz yorkie). All were spayed and had different experiences. Tara cried liked yours did the first day home, but got better fast with her pain meds. Ally only cried if we picked her up. You couldn't tell that she was spayed and had 13 baby teeth removed. I kept everything down on her level so she would not have to climb, jump, or anything. I'm thankful for soft pillows to sit on!!! lol Tia was spay and had two baby teeth removed a week and a half ago. She was very groggy the first day. The vet said not to give her meds until the next day also. As I sat beside her on the floor she tried to make sure I was there. Ally kept bringing her toys in hopes that she would play with her. She did moan a little when she tried to get up to follow me. I had to get my husband to take over just so I could go potty! The next two days were fine with her pain meds. The third day I didn't give them to her, but she seemed to need them again so I gave them to her for one more day. She is fine now. Good luck with your baby. Hope she feels better soon. |

What I meant to say was that Maggie could not get comfortable the night of her spay and we were able to get a hold of the vet and was given the go ahead to give her some pain meds. Her procedure was earlier on in the day so it was okay to give her some more. She quieted right down after she got the meds. Poor baby was still a bit out of sorts the next day but was back to her terror self the day after that. lol

| Piper just got spayed yesterday and at times will whimper if she moves funny. I'm sure she is in pain and sore, but as long as you are giving the meds like your vet suggested it will be managed pain. If she doesn't get better, then I'd talk to your vet. |

| thanks everyone for the reply! the day after she got spayed she is back to her normal self. im not sure if they are supposed to be hyper so fast, but she is back to her hyper self. she doesn't cry anymore or anything like that, but i noticed that when i put the cone on her when im not home or sleeping, she would start peeing everywhere in the room (she's trained to go potty on peepad, not outside). does anyone know why? could it be the cone is blocking her vision?? also, she is not as interested in her food as she was before (she would usually eat like crazy when its meal time). so now i have to cut up her treats in tiny pieces and mix it into her dry food to get her more interested. is this normal?? |

Maya is one week after her spay and dont worry, they dont eat right away. Its like humans, 48 hours after a surgery you can eat and feel nausea. Also, it took Maya 2 days to do number 2. As for the cone, she is probably scared, thats all. Give it few more days and see what happens. By the way, I never used the cone and Maya didnt touched her stitches! | |

| I love her name! I had a Kiwi, and I adored her. I'm glad she is feeling better than she was. Kiwi's sister, Ashley, didn't respond well usually to pain medications. Once I was able to stop using them any time she was on them, she did much better. Ashley wimpered a lot when she was on pain medications, and she also didn't eat well. I never used a cone with any of my girls after a spay. I got one of the cones from Mom to Hot Rod for Ashley several months ago to use when I was cutting her nails, and they are wonderful. I felt safer having one of them just in case I needed one for Ashley rather than using a plastic cone.
