| The problem I've heard regarding turkey: vets report that there is a spike in the number of cases of pancreatitis after Thanksgiving and Christmas, and that's in all breeds, not just Yorkies. It seems that people "sneak" table food to their dogs while they are eating. But, my understanding is that the culprit wasn't the turkey meat itself, but that nice, crispy skin. Yes, the dogs love it, it is tasty! But the rich, high-fat hit is especially hard for a smaller dog to handle. Dogs, Holiday Foods, and Pancreatitis: Thanksgiving and Christmas Treats Can Make Your Dog Sick It isn't the protein source, it is getting the high fat "treat" that is of concern. So roasted turkey breast, OK. Turkey skin, bad.

| I sure wouldn't let him have the skin!...just think what happens if you leave chicken skin on a plate, it sticks like glue...that can't be good for your insides |

| Haha we give our chicken how it is - skin and all. Some fat is good for them and it's a completely natural part of the diet.

| I concur. Raw diet does not cause heartworms. There are so many things that flood the internet on canine nutrition...it's a mess. Pork is not all bad (although I'd never feed it raw, but that goes for any meat) and turkey is not all bad either. I know people (even some pre-made raw diet feeders) see these as high fat, but the dry matter basis conversion of many raw diets reveals that most are high fat... We had a good thread going (YorkiePuppie started it) before. The more I read, the more I know this is definitely not the diet for us and the more I'm concerned about peoples' exposure to bacteria and parasites.

| A raw bone cracked my dog Daisy's tooth and I learned from the board certified veterinary dentist that animal bones are the worst for teeth. I'm just glad that it was only one dog and one tooth because I'm already in for $800 with this and we are not even cleared for surgery yet.
