![]() ![]() I will definitely look into other foods asap. Hope my Petsmart has either Blue Buffalo or Wellness. That is the only pet store anywhere close to me (and that's a 50 min. drive). Thanks to ALL of you for the info!!!

| Levi eats Orijen now (which he loves), but he has eaten Blue Buffalo in the past. Blue Buffalo is in my opinion the best food that Petsmart carries.

| I have not seen it mentioned, so I thought I should ask. Anyone have any opinions on Science Diet Toy and Small Breed Puppy (dry food)? That's what our little girl is being fed now and I thought I really should continue what she's already eating when we bring her home. Especially since I've read it is tricky to switch their food as they have sensitive stomachs... |

| Blue Buff (weight control), Solid Gold Wee Bits and Wellness. Wellness is the newest one for him, and his favorite. He only eats dry kibble.

| The 3 younger pups are eating NB Potato/Duck kibble and several of the Merrick canned foods. Zipp (15yrs) is on K/D b/c of his kidney values being at the border of normal/high, but stable last 6 months . Lots of choices. Please read the ingredients labels, ask YTers questions. Ask the manufactors for small 2-3 lbs sample bags. If you are interested in a certain brand/variety and it is not carried by local stores you may check into mail ordering, if affordable.

| It's very disheartening that pet stores which should be dedicated to a pet's well being are selling such poor quality foods that can actually be harmful to them. I made a list of the foods that were recommended here on this forum and went to a very, very large pet store (we're on vacation) and Blue Buffalo was the only brand they carried that wasn't the low quality corn based dry foods. As a matter of fact, one aisle was designated to one particular brand (poor quality) food. When I asked the clerk about the others brands she wasn't familiar with any of them.

Is there anything bad about Iams that I should know about? I started looking into Blue Buffalo, but the prices are about double. What's the justification of making the switch?

![]() The way I look at it... yeah, a person CAN survive eating fattening foots, smoking and drinking a ton of alcohol. And some people will live 'til their 100 living like that. But it doesn't mean it's healthy or you should do it. Dogs are carnivores, meat-eaters. Check out the ingredients in Iams and compare them to Blue Buffalo Wilderness, or Acana, or any other high quality food. The differences are amazing. Plus, Iams have been recalled ALOT and have been involved in animal testing. A big IamsCruelty.com Also, check out Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble for references. Keep in mind, feeding a higher quality food means feeding less, as well as less poop. I currently feed Acana and my 15lb boy eats 1/2 cup a day, along with some wet food. He typically poops 2x a day and they are small, firm and not very smelly (gross, analyzing my dogs poop... LOL)

That's all I needed to hear. LOL In all seriousness..Thanks for the info. I was sure there was a reason behind nobody else feeding Iams. I just didn't know what it was. I just ordered a bag of Blue Buffalo small breed puppy. I'll let you know how Levi's switch goes! Thanks

| My female 12 wk eats Royal Canin Puppy 33 My male 2 yrs has changed quite a bit from different, healthier brands - right now he is eating something called 'now' it's healthy wholeness in a black and gold bag... can't figure out the name of it. Does anyone know any negative things about the Royal Canin, bad effects from eating it? How can one find out what *exact* nutrients the dogs need daily/weekly to be 100% healthy, so I can find the dog food, treats or simply make it all myself... Thanks loves! |
