| Reverse Sneezing Couver has been reverse sneezing a lot lately. He never did it before, but now it happens several times a day. Could it be allergies? It just sounds so bad, and my DH is getting worried. Does anyone elses yorkie reverse sneeze a lot?

Senior Yorkie Talker | Ummmm..... Sounds like allergies. Princess does that certain times during the year. I also use a harness to help with r. sneezing.

| Uni does it when she gets really excited, almost every time. I think it is reverse sneezing at least. I saw the yorkie episode of Dogs 101 and when they showed the yorkies reverse sneezing they described it as a "goose honking". But that's not what Uni sounds like. Wonder what it is then?

| I took Mia to the vet today because she is honking and sneezing so much. I was very worried, she has been keeping us up at night. (She's not resting either! Poor Baby!!) So yes, I worry about this too!! We are not sure what is going on, I am giving her sudafed and watching her close. She is still eating well, and everything else is good. Since we just did a rescue I was afraid of kennel cough. Who knows if they get allergies or not. We have a fire in the area, stayed in a hotel with a stinky air conditioner, smoking room. Hate to say it I think they are just fragile dogs. that I love to death!!!! Keep us posted on how your dog is doing. Hope this helps. |

| I actually posted about this same concern in the health section...although I didn't get much response there. Toby has been hacking...or sounding more like he has a hair ball since I got him. Although it is getting a little better. AT first I thought it was reverse sneezing from what I had read but then I saw the yorkies on animal planet and realized it sounded more like a goose honking. I'm waiting for his next vet appointment to ask again. |

| Well I guess we all wonder about the same things sometime. Last night I was on U tube watching videos of reverse sneezing, and kennel cough trying to figure out the differences. The vet helped answer my questions today. He said if you gently massage the throat area around the trachea, if they have kennel cough it will set them off coughing and coughing. He also said you have to step back and look at the whole picture. Are they laying around, not playing or moving much? Are they eating normally, how are their potties? Are they running a fever? How do their lungs sound. He made me feel better, told me what to keep an eye on, did not charge me a penny for the visit!! I was flabbergasted, he said save your money for when she is sick. |

YT 1000 Club Member | wow what a nice guy! I can tell you I"ve been thru kennal cough with Roxie when I first got her. It was awful and it scarred her vocals to where she can't bark. Sounds like she's horse. I thought I was going to lose her. It was not fun. This was 2 years ago and she has a sensitive trache. If you rub on it as you described it causes her to cough but goes away. She'd cough till she sounded like she would throw up. She was very lethargic too. Does anyone else's yorkie make the honking sound after drinking water?

| hehe I felt bad to do it but after reading that I had to rub Toby's throat even though he was sleeping peacefully. Not a peep of a cough. He also is VERY energetic. My Mom's chi thinks he is a little too energetic ;-) |

| Reverse Sneezing I have a Morkie (Bailey) and she just started reverse sneezing pretty badly the last couple of weeks. Her brother was diagnosed with pretty bad seasonal allergies and I'm thinking she may have the same thing. His are worse because he chews his paws to the point of being raw... Bailey just has her reverse sneezing. Does massaging the throat area actually work? I would hate for her to have tracheal break-down because of this. Anyone have first hand experience? |

| Sandy started reverse sneezing very often in late spring... It worried me. Now he gets that only when he's very excited. |
