| ![]() I took Bella in for her booster shots today and they asked me if I wanted her to have this shot. I said no as I have read articles of small dogs in our area having reactions to it. Plus, I am a bit confused if it really necessary. Anyone have any experience with this shot? I would love some feedback so I can make a more informed decision. I read the information from the CDC but that doesn't mean it is safe for my 2lb furbutt.

| ![]() My vet does not suggest it to anyone who's dog is under 15 lbs. Do a liitle research into what lepyo itself is and make an informed decision on whether or not you find it necessary to have administered... I personally do not get Sasha Lepto at all. |

| ![]() My breeder told me that Lucy should have it before she was out and about with other dogs or at the park, etc. She had it with no problems or side effects. I was fairly uninformed at the time.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I give it to my puppies on the last shot. This is something my vet and I went around and around on. In my area there is high cases of Lepto. We felt the risk are higher not giving it.

| ![]() My breeder gave instructions not to give Bentley Lepto or Corona...so I am following her advice. With the rabies shot he gets a benadryl shot first and then the rabies vaccine. |

| ![]() Jackson had a bad reaction to Lepto at 12 weeks so he will never get it again. He's a bigger guy, too, he's 15lbs as an adult but at the time he was around 6lbs. He was lethargic, he lost control of his back legs, he was vomitting, I really thought he was dying. I was so scared. So never again for us. It's not a core vaccine.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() all four of my dogs get the lepto shot.. one of them being only 4/5 pounds and none of them have had any reactions. I know of the risks but feel that because of the area I live in, I would rather them have the shot then get sick with the virus. ( and yes I know that not all of the "virus's are covered in the one shot). Its a tough decision that only you and your vet can make.

| ![]() In regards to corona virus here is some info i found Critter Advocacy Dog Vaccines and Vaccinations http://sharminspoodles.homestead.com...fo2005.wps.htm I do not give lepto or corona to my yorkies they are not "at risk" the disease is extremely rare and not usually life threatening.

Plus, the research I am doing now is connecting CKD and liver disease to undiagnosed cases of Lepto that have been allowed to go untreated or unvaccinated. In consideration that CIN is one of the leading causes of death in dogs, I choose to get the shot. Although, like I have said before, it is truly a personal choice one has to make weighing in on all the research. Last edited by lil fu fu girl; 08-20-2010 at 07:53 AM. | |

| ![]() Thank you everyone for weighing on the subject. There haven't been many cases around my area but several small breed dogs becoming ill from the vaccine. My vet gave me the information regarding the shot but ultimately left it up to me to decide. After, I made my decision she told me that she agreed with my choice. Bella is a Tiny girl, 2lbs at 1yr 4 months and I am not willing to risk her life for this vaccine. It is interesting to see that there really is no set answer to this one.

| ![]() my vet told me it is "company policy" for them to offer all vaccines regardless of what the individual vet believes .......afterall vaccines is how they make a bulk of their money. It just goes to show you how important it is for the consumer to do their research and decide for themselves what is best for their pet.
