Most times you can type in the name of the dog food on a search engine to find their website. The websites will have a store locator to find a retailer near you.

http://www.petfooddirect.com another place (slighly more expensive) is http://www.waggintails.com I also mentioned in a previous post that YORKSHIRE TERRIER RESCUE is now sells SOLID GOLD. If you go to the ytnr website and click on the "country store" link you can buy from them and do a good deed at the same time. I think that website is either http://www.ytnr.com or http://ww.ytnr.org Other options - Newman's and Merrik and Solid Gold all sell directly to the customer. I think so does Artemis and Wysong. One other option - for those who would like to try a raw diet or are looking for good quality supplements: www.pawsuponhealth.com h | |

I saw that Royal Canin Natural Blend was recommended but does that include all Royal Canin dog foods? Because I just took my Harley off of Purina puppy chow(bc of the by-products and poor ingredients), which was what his breeders fed him, and put him on Royal Canin MINI Canine Health Nutrition Puppy 33 and I plan to change him to Mini Yorkshire by Royal Canin when he's old enough. Also, he just had a vet check up a couple days ago and he weighed in at 3.75 pds and he's a little over 8 months. Is he over weight?? I'm just a worried mum I guess! Thanks.

I Really recommend Innova www.naturapet.com also if you'd want to know more information on ingredients to avoid, or just do some research: http://www.mordanna.com/dogfood/index.php?page=identify

I feed mine Canidae with a little Missing Link and a 1/2 tsp. of plain yogurt mixed in. They love it and have shiny coats and aren't overweight at all.

I give Maggie Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy Food. It's the only food she will eat. She also likes the Ceasar's Puppy wet food. I have more food in my panty(that she won't eat) to start my own kennel. Getting ready to back my car up now and load it up to take to the shelter. I don't care what's on the DO NOT FEED OR DO FEED list. The only thing I know is that my Australian Cattle dogs eat the Pro Plan Adult food and Maggie is on the Small Breed Pro Plan. All my dogs are in excellent shape with beautiful coats. I did notice that on the DO NOT FEED list, that the Purina Pro Plan WAS NOT listed. I do know that you can't get Pro Plan just anywhere. Maybe because it's one of Purina's finer foods? Who knows.

The only thing that I find wrong with Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy and Pro Plan Adult dog food is that they contain such ingredients as corn gluten meal, whole grain corn, poultry by-product meal and corn bran. Corn has no nutritional value for dogs and any dog food brand that includes any kind of by-products are usually a "no no". Simply bc the by-products are allowed to contain bits and pieces of animals such as beaks, feet, feathers, bone etc and they have been marked as un-fit for human consumption. Some dogs have no poor reactions to such ingredients but others, that are more sensitive, like our golden retriever Lady, have really bad reactions from them such as hot spots, allergies and upset stomach (vomiting). I'm not trying to push anyone or convince anyone to change their dogs diet if they don't want to. My only reasoning is to state the obvious facts that way other dog owners can atleast be informed. Sadly most people who truly love their dogs aren't even aware of the harmful ingredients in dog foods. Some dogs are picky and will only eat certain foods, I'm lucky bc my new Yorkie eats anything! lol.. So thank God he's not a picky eater. I just changed him over from purina puppy food to royal canin mini puppy food and the transition was as smooth as can be!

Hi everyone...I'm so happy I found this forum. I don't have any pics up yet but will soon. I have a 3 years yorkie named Frankie. He is currently on Eukanuba...but I am considering switching him to a more natural dog food....however I'm a little nervous cause he has a very sensitive stomach. When he was 1 1/2 years old he had Pancreatitis.(we fed him things we weren't suppose to feed him) Because of that episode, he can only eat dry food and sometimes boiled chicken, carrots, string beans. He cannot have any type of treats....he probably could ever now and then..but i prefer not to give them to him. I used to give him greenies to help his teeth...but it recently upset his stomach...so i've stopped. It would be great to talk to others who have a similar situation to my Frankie....but other than that...he is a wonderful little dog. NICE TO MEET YOU ALL!

Royal Canin is always on the good list but their ingredients aren't so great and it makes the dogs itch because of the corn. I am torn between Nature's Balance (Great ingredients) and Royal Canin (Great taste). I'm mixing the two and also add the Nature's Balance meat rolls every other day. I have to choose a kibble to feed permanently and I am so torn. I'm scared that if I feed Chewy only Nature's Balance that he won't eat as much and will get skinny. BTW, I have noticed he poos easier with NB added. Used to strain a little with only Royal Canin. BUT, the RC poos were harder and less often. I Don't know - I'm going CRAZY with this food stuff

Hi Everyone! It has been awhile, I am reading the posts on dry foods and what to feed our babies. Gucci is now 11 mts. and probably weighs about 6-7 lbs. I have been feeding her Eukanuba Lamb& Rice Puppy food. She never had a problem, I am going to switch her to adult food, but am sooo confused as to what to feed her. Petsmart by me does not carry Natural Balance or Innova Dry Food, I would need to order that online. Petsmart carries a brand called Blue has anyone used this food for their yorkie? They say its natural and one of the better dry food. I appreciate any feedback.. Thanks! Gina

Is it Blue Buffalo or just Blue? I've heard some good things about the former. Just in general, I have been very disappointed with the quality, or should I say, lack thereof, of food Petsmart and Petco carry. If you want Pedigree or Proplan or some low end food such as these, you can get it from them, but you can't get Solid Gold, Innova, Prarie, Newmans, Wysong, etc. About the only food my local Petco carries that I buy in a pinch is Natural Balance. If you don't want to buy on-line (that what I do 90% of the time), try to find a small neighborhood pet shop or dog training center. These smaller places often sell higher quality pet food. My hunch here is that people who tend to shop in the big retail chains are looking for savings (volume sellers) and are less label conscious. If you are willing to go to a small shop, you may find that what they lack in quantity, they make up in quality. That's my hunch. Anyhow there's a small petshop in my neighborhood that carries Wellness, Canidae, California Natural and chicken Soup. When I run out of my standbys - I will buy from this shop instead of Petco.
