Word of caution - no raw salmon or salmon skin or obviously bones. I know someone who's dog got very sick from raw salmon.

No one mentioned how fish would change his bowel movement...not the texture, but the smell!

This is all such great information. I have only always given him dry lamb and rice for the protein and to keep his stool nice and tight. I have always cringed when I would drop a raw veggie and he would eat it. I hate to throw away this food but if it's healthy for him maybe I will even stop buying dog food for him. Certainly something to think about. Thanks so much everybody ~ from me and my Harley boy

Fish isn't something that they would eat in their natural environment but a little fish wouldn't hurt them. Some dogs with certain protein issues have to supplement with fish as one of their protein sources though

I keep frozen smelts in my freezer and throw them to the boys on occasion.

I see nothing wrong with canned sardines or canned salmon. Most sardines in cans come from Morroco or Portugal and are wild-caught. Some are packed in water and some have no added salt. There is also canned wild caught salmon. I see nothing wrong with cans if they are bpa free and the fish inside is wild caught.
