| Influenza vaccination I was reading one of the other posts and the owner mentioned the vet insisted on her dog having an influenza vaccination. My vet did not mention this to me when Rosie went in last week for her shots. Is this something she should have? Also, there is a small bump on her hip area where the shot was given. I called the vet and they told me to give it a week. Any one else deal with this? Thanks |

| My dogs haven't had an influenza vaccine, either. I don't think it is necessary, and don't intend to ever have it given to them. A bump at the vaccination site is not unusual, and you will probably notice it is gone in a few days.

| I took my dane in two weeks ago. My vet suggested the flu vax but did not require it. We are a non-vax family so this one was a no brainier. I'm glad we passed on it because Lucy had a severe reaction to her shots. She did not eat or drink for 4 days and had the worst diarrhea I have ever seen in animal or human. Lucy is now only allowed to get the rabies vax...which is fine with me since she has had all puppy shots and two rounds of adult shots. Piper will not get the flu vax and will only get the necessary adult vaxes to a point. Of course, I have a more conservative view on vaxes so take my opinion as a crazy hippy lady.

| I believe my post was the post where the Vet insisted on the canine influenza shot, if not I did post one also. In my case I can speak as to why; my dog goes to day care twice a week and is very social, my Vet did not insist but strongly suggested it. When I originally contacted my Vet, she stated it was not required and only after she had advanced education about this shot and gave it to her dog did she started recommending it to specific patients. I have had many people tell me it was not necessary and honestly it probably wasn't but I trust my Vet 100% and I take any and all recommendations from her very seriously. After researching it myself I decide to vaccinate Sophie Kate. FYI, she didn't have any reaction to the shot(s) thank goodness.
