| How young is too young to neuter? Bullet is now 4 months and 1 week old, and weighs 2.2 lbs. He's starting to hump, particularly my husband (LOL!) but also on my girl Rio (she's 16 months, but she is spayed). I mean, he wants to hump ALL the time! I had hoped to wait until his adult teeth came in so that any baby teeth could be pulled at the same time as his neuter surgery. But I'm concerned he is starting to mature and I don't want him to start marking as well. Is he too young to be neutered? Should I still wait until he is at least six months? Are there any bad side effects to neutering at a young age? |

| I think he might be too young to be neutered. Next time you go to the vet tell him you want to neuter Bullet when his growth plates close. He will show you how to check and will give you a good idea whether or not he's ready. Treat the humping as any undesired behavior and distract him with something else. If you worry about marking, start ordering belly bands and train to correct that also. It takes time and dedication, but it's not hard. If you put in the effort, it's possible to get him to stop the humping.

| I wouldn't be so concerned about the age as I would about the size. I would probably wait until he hits at least 3 lbs. I know with my girl we had to had her spayed at I think it was eight months old to see if she'd grow any. She didn't. She was just 2.5 lbs. and did fine but you have to be really careful. I'd check out the type of anastisia they use too. One is safer then the rest and I really do not remember which is which but someone on here might. Also they have to take extra precautions with little ones. Elaine |

| we neuter at 4-6 months when the testicles are fully descended. as soon as the little boys drop it's pretty much time to go. humping at this age is either to help his testicules descend and a healthy and good thing, OR it's dominace. he's prob. not sexually mature at 4 months but either dominating or trying to help his boys drop down. don't allow humping of humans as that's almost always dominane and not sexual. |

| My vet said when Merlin is 6 months of age he can be neutered. But he is already over 3 pounds now at 4 1/2 months. As said above don't let him continue bad behaviour. What does your vet think?

| Maybe talk to a behaviorist to see if there's a way to stop the humping. We waited until about 7 months to neuter/spay with both our pups so we could any remaining baby teeth that needed to be pulled at the same time. By the way, I love the name!! When I first got Bandit, my mom always called him Bullet for some reason |
