He will show you how to check and will give you a good idea whether or not he's ready. Treat the humping as any undesired behavior and distract him with something else. If you worry about marking, start ordering belly bands and train to correct that also. It takes time and dedication, but it's not hard. If you put in the effort, it's possible to get him to stop the humping.
