| Raw diet I've read a couple of articles lately on feeding your pets raw meats and animal bones, accompanied with a splash of vegetables. They state it's healthier to your animal and keeps their teeth clean, also that it reduces "odours". Was wondering if anyone on here had looked into this or considered it. And also is there more information out there on feeding your animals raw meat products. They even suggested that many vets have not been educated on the benefits and no supplements are requireed. Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I feed pre-made raw by Primal and my babies love it: Primal Pet Foods: Wholesome Raw Food for Dogs and Cats There are other pre-made brands as well, such as Stella & Chewys, Bravo, Natures Variety. You might be talking about Prey Model raw though?

| We do pre-made raw as well with 2 of our dogs. We use Stella & Chewy's, they love it. I have gone curious about Primal though, she very popular here.

| I have considered it! I really, really, would like to thought but my mother isn't to keen on my feeding Cody a raw diet, so yep. This is a really nice link that answered all of my questions Leerburg | Feeding a Raw Diet There was also a thread started about this in the Health&Diet section, once I can find it I will post it here! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Prey Model is feeding raw meaty bones, organ meats, raw fish etcetera. Pre-made raw is raw meat, bones, veg, fruit etc that has been ground together.

I feed prey-model raw to my 6 month yorkie-poo and received a lot of good advice from another member on Yorkie Talk (Princess Diana) as I was preparing. I've been doing this for 4 months and I think it is wonderful! The chewing of bones really helps the teeth- removes plaque, etc., and there is no doggy breath! I have not done the pre-made raw so I cannot offer any help there. You are welcome to PM if you have any questions, but the link to Jane Anderson's www.rawlearning.com site will help tremendously. Good luck!

| Question--- can I feed him just raw bones, even though he's not on a raw diet? For teeth and health purposes? Where can you get these?

| I feed Nature's Variety pre-made raw to my 5 1/2 month old Yorkie, Kasha. I've been doing it for about a month and it's great! #2 has become much less smelly & smaller, her hair is soooo shiny and she gobbles it down( something she never ever did with kibble) she's also gained a much needed .2 lbs. lol. I highly recommend the raw diet. Benefits are well worth the "ick factor" w/ touching the raw meat.

BUT when it come to cutting cut a 20lb block of beef heart or something for the dog, I have no issues...odd... Also I think the pre-made raw like nature's variety looks a lot like canned, so it isn't too hard to stomach! | |

| We feed Primal Raw as well and it's too easy to prepare and give to my Snickers. Snick has been on raw for about 1.5 yrs now and I cannot be happier. He is luscious! Meaning, he smells sweet and his teeth are are in superb condition. He had a surgery last NOV and I truly feel his diet helped him recovery quickly. I definitely recommend a raw diet to anyone who is thinking about it!! Hugs- Snick & Viv

The best way to do this would be just to feed a raw chicken thigh or breast with the skin removed (it can upset tummies in the beginning of raw feeding). You may need to cut ribbons/slits in the meat so they can get a hold of it in the beginning. A chicken breast can take up to 2 days to eat depending on the size of your dog. A chicken thigh at my house is usually eaten in 1 day (I have a pup a little under 5 pounds). You just refrigerate after each meal then bring it out again. You may be a bit shocked at first at how loud the crunching is, but it is good for the teeth. The tearing of the meat is also good for the teeth. The important part would be raw chicken thighs not cooked as cooked bones splinter but raw ones do not. I hope this helps!
