I had a little mini dachshund that would have a false pregnancy, after every heat...Around 60 days, she would start nesting, and bringing her toys into her bed...This would go on for a couple of weeks, and I felt so bad for her, because she wouldn't come out of the closet...I finally had her spayed @ about 3 yrs. old...This was back in the days, where spay wasn't so popular, and people didn't usually do it, unless there was a chance the dog might get pregnant, and that was never an issue...so yes, some dogs do have false pregnancys, nipples swell, and the whole nesting instinct happens...

I think it's crazy not to feel that way. So you are normal.

Izzie had false pregnancies twice. She would have the swollen nipples, be very loving and she started carrying around her little teddy bear. Then on the same day that she would have been due she started lying on the floor with her teddy bear and would curl up around it like she was nursing. I had her spayed after her second heat but she still carries that teddy bear with her all the time. She has to have it to go to bed and if you can't find it you might as well keep looking until you do because she isn't going to bed until she has it. Heaven help me if anything happens to that bear because I haven't been able to find another one.

| Yes, probably false pregnancy. My girl just went through this. The teat enlarges and she actually had milk coming out She has never been bred. Keep an eye on your girl if this occurs to make sure she doesn't get mastitis (infection in teat - sorry if that's wrong spelling) or pyometra - infection in the uterus.

It is awful that they have to go through that! I wish I would have had the courage to get her spayed before her heat. I for sure will get it done before the next one. I am so grateful to have my fellow yorkie talkers no one else understands!
