| Flea help? Ahh my baby has been infected with fleas. She has never had them but just last week I took her in to get spayed and she came home with them. I already have flea shampoo I wash her with and I will do that again after she has healed and can have a bath, but what else can I do? I don't know if I should use medicine on her because shes so small, how much, or what kind. Should I wash all of our bedding as well because they even bite me now Any help is appreciated! Thanks so much!

| If the fleas are biting you too it means your house is probably infested. And yes. Wash hers and your bedding. If the flea shampoo doesn't work Dawn dishwashing liquid will do the trick. It will desolve the protective coating fleas have. |

| Thanks a bunch! I will do that. It may not be fleas that are biting me it could just be a normal bug bite I live in the country so they are everywhere. Hopefully my house doesn't have them, we don't have an inch of carpet so I don't think they could be hiding there.

| Just call me the bubble burster but fleas can get in between floor boards, wall trim etc. and lay eggs. Sigh. You don't have to have carpet to be infested. One way to tell if you are getting bitten by fleas (especially if you are asleep) is they will bite you in a line. It looks like they bite then move forward then bite again. That is by no means the only way they do it but it is a dead giveaway if you do see that. Do you have a flea comb? Those work well. One of the neat things about them is that they trap the flea at the base of the comb and then you can either smush them with your fingernail or take them to the toilet. (You can NOT flatten then though. That just makes em angry. LOL |

| That is true I didn't think about that. When I think about it though I used to live in an apartment that was infested and the bites were very tiny, the ones I'm getting now are larger so hopefully there is no eggs in my walls and floorboards lol!

| I would also vacuum any furniture your baby goes on- i.e. couches, chairs.... That will help eliminate them.

YT 3000 Club Member | you can a dish with soapy water next to a light and they will go toward the light jump and they are dead, put diah soap in it, and when you vacum put in a cut up flea collar and suck up some borax like the mule team stuff for laundry and that will dehydrate them and kill them, good luck |

| Vacuum everywhere, everyday for a while. I'd also look into getting your baby on Sentinel - it's heartworm meds that also takes care of fleas - it does not kill adults, but it keeps them from being able to reproduce. Oliver had a few adults on him last fall, but because they couldn't reproduce the problem was short lived and no where near as bad as it would have been. It's pricey but so worth it.. especially living in the country, I wouldn't be without some kind of protection. You can also get K9 advantix or Advantage, they work well, too. Good luck! Fleas are such a battle... I wish there was a way to destroy that little species.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | FLEAS suck ! I've never dealt with this but have read tons - be very careful what you use on her - some of the over the counter stuff is toxic - Dawn dish soap will kill them if you shampoo her with it but it isn't a long term solution - They can infest your furniture bedding etc so you'll need to wash everything and as someone said - vacuum really really well everywhere- these nasty creatures can get everywhere and lay dormant until the eggs hatch Like I said - a little bath in Dawn dish soap should kill the alive fleas on her - it does work.....then you want long term protection such as Frontline etc - good luck. |

| Thanks everyone very much! I've not had to deal with fleas for awhile so I forgot all about them pretty much! Hopefully doing all this and giving her a bath whenever she is healed will do the trick
