Rescue Remedy....let's try this again

I'm going to try the lavender. I want to take Zoe with me on a trip this week. But I'm so scared to because she gets so carsick

My family always used Benedryl or Dramamine on our dogs but I don't want to go that route. I used something OTC at Petsmart once but it didn't work and I gave it away.

I have been doing some reading and from what I have read peppermint oil (the essential oil) should not be used on paws because they will lick it and it shouldn't be ingested..

Remember if you cannot cook with the peppermint oil then you cannot use it on your dog's paws.

I know peppermint oil works awesome for many other things and in humans as well. My friend buys peppermint leafs and makes a tea before bed and it helps her insomnia..

thanks for posting this as i have read of a yorkie dying of using full proof tea tree oil on paws so why i stay clear of tea tree oil

I was just reading something on a groomers forum about what to do to make the dog more comfortable when they first meet you. Someone suggested chewing cinnamon or peppermint gum (not sure which they actual suggested) because for some reason it seems to calm them. I'm gonna start trying it at work to see what happens.

have you ever tried a salt lamp for storms. A few ladies on my yorkie groups have used them in midwest and they swear by them. Obviously not for a car ride but for storms at home may work. My dex also freaks from smoke detectors as well but my girls it does not phase them. I have to have dh change all smoke detectors before leaving to visit family in OH as everytime he goes it seems the smoke detector goes off at 3 am in the morning and dex is a total mess and we have high ceilings so i have to drat out the ladder at 3 in the morning - NOT FUN

Ive used rescue remedy and I like this better BlackWing Farms' natural products for pet behavior and animal training problems

No I was saying I would not use Rescue remedy as there was no testing as it is something that goes in the dog and could do harm but I was ok with T Touch and the wraps as although no studies they would not do any harm as it was done on the dog.

what about cerenia for car sickness? There are two forms one for anti-vomitting and one for car sickness. The one for car sickness is much stronger as I have looked into it for dex.

Has anyone used this?

I also believe that if a person has a pet that has serious anxiety issues that are prolonged they need to be seeing a special vet because there may be some other concerns that are causing the problem.

There are probably people who give too much of a dose to their pets at a given time and I believe that could cause an upset stomach. To much of ANY thing can do this to a small Yorkie, so it's up to the parent/owner to use caution.

Some people have rubbed it on their pets ears and it worked fine for them this way.

Well since some my fur kids have seen a special vet and I have worked through their concerns for the most part and have spent many and hour over the last 7 years learning about anxiety and fear in dogs from many levels. I will trust what I have learned and works for us.

I forgot also look into "Through a Dog's Ear" music for dogs based on breakthrough research to improve the health of your canine companion great calming music and many are taking notice of it.

So you are aware at the end of the dogs ears is an endorphine ( sp) release point and that is why ear rubbing on dogs work most times if pressure is use to trigger that release. There is another located in the under the nose and above the upper lip as well.

As for the be careful what I like about Bio calm is that it is natural and will not cause problems with most dogs.

I'm pretty sure there is just one formula for Cerenia and its just given in different dosages. High dosage for motion sickness then acute vomiting. its just an anti-nausea medication.

I bought it and there are two different boxes - one for anti-nausea and one for motion sickness - Have not used it yet though

so there are two boxes and also injections for dogs with pancreatitis, etc and yes each has different doseage amounts and the motion sickness one is much stronger dose

that must be new then. Last i saw it (about a year ago now) it was the same medication for both problems. There were about 4 different mgs the medication came in but there wasn't one for just motion sickness and one for just acute vomiting. you might need a different mg for different problems but it was the same medication. so like a 5lb dog would need about 1/2 of a 16mg tab for vomiting, and a whole 24mg tab for motion sickness.

and yes it comes in injectable form too.

not sure but think it is a blister form so you cannot cut it - I will check as have not used it but box is at home so will post when i go home and check it out. I bought it to get him to board certified dentist so he is not vomitting when we get there and going under anesthesia as he is about 45 minutes away in traffic . Dentist and IMS said it would be safe with anesthesia but a little nervous still

yeah i think its the same thing that i'm talking about then. these were in blister packs as well and you can still split them in half. it doesn't alter the effectiveness of the medication. Cerenia is safe with anesthesia. we would give it to patients who were vomiting in hospital

ok cool thanks as i keep postponing the dental for fear of putting him in the car and the stress he goes under My girls are good in the car but he stresses so much it breaks my heart to see him like that and what is sad is he is so social and sweet with other dogs and i want to take him to meet ups
