| Should I combine a shot and microchipping in the same visit? Hello! How is everyone doing? Hope well! Miloh is due for his last shot in 3 weeks and I am planning on microchipping him as well. I asked the vet if he suggested I combine both the shot and microchipping in the same visit or if I should separate them in order to cause him less pain. Not only did the vet give me a clueless look but he also said that it wouldn't matter. My main concern is that he would already be getting a shot and to add another one with a thick needle worries me about the amount of pain Miloh will be in. What do you ladies & gents suggest? All advice is welcome! Thank you all. |

| I would only microchip when under anesthesia as it can be painful so i did my dd when she was spay - it is a bigger needle they use when doing it |

| My vet said if I want to microchip, she'll do it when Olive gets spayed because she is too feisty and would never sit still for that big needle! I don't think I'd do that and a shot in the same day... it might be too much for him. Also, the big needle might scare him! |

| I'm no help because each dog we did differently. Finnigan, we only did the microchipping and Gwenndilyn we did shots and microchip. Neither dog even acted like they felt the microchipping and Finnigan has a really low pain tolerance. If you're at the vet may as well get both as it saves a visit.

| Mine were both microchipped and didn't squirm or make a sound, one was done by the breeder when I picked her out and the other was done in the vet office at out first checkup visit. I see the benefit of having it done at spay to avoid extra pain but we didn't do it that way and both were fine.

| I agree with those who said to do microchip at the same time as the neuter. I know some vets say it's no big deal, and it leaves no wound, but I saw a significant scab and dry blood where the vet inserted the needle. The vet microchipped Kaji while he was still under the anesthesia so I know the big scab wasn't due to his fidgeting.

| Sandy got his chip and shot at the same time. He only cried when he had the shot but not the chip. He's back to himself playing the same evening. |

| I'm going to have Tilly chipped when she's out for her spay. She screamed the place down for her first vaccination last week and she has to go through it again next week. There's no way I'm putting her through being chipped as well.
