| Car sickness in dogs Has anyone given dramamine to their yorkie for traveling. Toby weighs ten lbs. I read you can give them a half a pill. If so how far in advance of the trip. Last edited by diannenet; 04-03-2010 at 09:12 PM. |

| Not that this will help you, but our puppy has motion sickness so she is on Cerenia (dog form of dramamine) for long car rides and it has worked wonders! She is 7.5 lbs and she takes two 16 mg pills everytime. She has to fast for an hour before taking them and then I stick two in a little bit of wet food (they dissolve a little). Then you have to wait another two hours before driving.

| We have one that does take dramamine for car sickness. The vet told us to cut the 25 mg (this is a more expensive pill of the dramamine, but they stated to not get the 50mg) and cut into 4ths. Then to give one of those a half an hour to an hour before hand and if that didn't work to go up from there up to a pill (of the 25mg). The 4th of a pill works great for our girl and doesn't make her tired or any side effects at all except for no drooling and barfing! LOL They said that you would want to use the least amount possible to make it work. They also told us that they also have a pill there that they carry, but it is pretty much the same thing? Just to note though....this is just what our vet told us!

| How much is dramamine? Cause the Cerenia is $19 at my vet for 4 pills (that means $9.75/car trip).

| Thank you. I bought the 25 mg for about $6 and if I can get four trips out of one pill that is pretty cheap. I will be trying it in about an hour when we head home. I'll report back tonight to let everyone know how it worked. Thanks for the great information. |

| The dramamine worked GREAT! Toby was a little pistol all the way home but he didn't get sick...............I gave him 1/4 of a 25 mg pill and it did the trick. I almost wish it would have made him tired so he would have stayed in his booster seat but he had to be in the front seat with "mom and dad." What a spoiled little furbutt! THANK YOU everyone for your advice and comments. It is truly appreciated. This was Toby's first camping trip and considering all the factors, he did great! At least he didn't have to sleep in a tent. Here's a couple pics of him when he did stay in his car seat on the way home.

| You know, I didn't even think of Dramamine for car sickness... Chip is perfectly fine in my car, which is an automatic, but if he spends more than about 5 minutes in my husband's car, which is a manual, he starts throwing up a lot. Is this something that has to be prescribed by the vet or can you get it over the counter? We would only need it like once or twice a year, but it would be handy to have around just in case we needed to use my husband's car with them.

| It's over the counter, but a little harder to find in the 25 mg form. I found it at Wal-Mart.

| Riding My vet said to use 1/2 the childrens dose. I use 1/2 the 25 mg & it works wonderfully! They don't act any different, they just don't throw up!!
