| What kind of food would be good for my 13wk female Yorkie? I have a 13-week female Yorkie; the previous owner gave her Purina Puppy Chow. I bought Merrick puppy plate for her, but she does not like. I want a good quality food for her, because she is loosing some hair. She scratches a lot, but does not have fleas or ticks, so I do not know if this is due to some allergy to her food. What kind of food would be good for her? |

| Welcome to YT! And congratulations on your new puppy! What's her name? Your baby is much too young to have food allergies - those develop over time. She may have dry skin or mites. Have you had a vet examine her? Some brands I really like are Acana, Nature's Variety, Innova, Evo, Fromms and Wellness to name a few. A lot of these are suitable for all life stages, meaning you can feed it to both puppies and adults. Ones like Wellness have special formulas for wellness. Do you have a farm/ag supply store, or a pet boutique near you? Those are the best places to find good quality foods.

| She is healthy, her check up came well. She sometimes scratches her ears, but not all the time. I bought Merrick puppy plate from a supply store (Pet Supply Store), they'd recommend this food. But she does not like it at all. |

| I contacted Wellness and they sent me a sample so I could have Sophie try it first to see if she liked it. Others might send samples to you too if requested.

| That's a good idea. My local "boutique" also carries a lot of free samples of several different brands.

| Lots of Yorkies tend to itch a lot if they are eating a high grain food. And lots of dogs are picky eaters and don't do well when switched from one food to another cold turkey. (Plus, that could easily cause some serious digestive upset.) Feed her small amounts and gradually add more of the new food to the food she is already eating. |

| Today at the store the attendant recommended me to buy Chicken Soup for Chicken Lovers (puppy) for picky dogs. But I do not know if it is a good nutritious option for my Bella. |

I think it's an ok food. IMO it's better than say Science Diet or RC.

| We fed Blue Buffalo for small dogs. Our little one like it except for the little black bits which she would save for later. She would eventually eat it though after scattering them all over the kitchen floor. |
