| The season has kicked off here. I have found a small tick crawling up Maddie's neck and big ole fat dog tick on Coopers neck! ewwww! I gagged as I pulled that sucker off. I have been planning on getting them started on some treatment but am SO confused on what to use. Any suggestions on something safe and organic Maggie? |

| I stopped use those flea poisons a couple of years ago. I just couldn't continue to apply those products to my dogs knowing how toxic they are.....I asked myself, "Would I feel just as confident in this products safety if I was asked to apply it between my kids shoulder blades????"....That did it for me...... I have the cedar product, but it's from a company called Cedarcide..... Organic Pest Control Green Bug repellent kill Fleas and Ticks Natural insect repellent I love the little 4oz. canisters. I have two of them....I always have one at my side when I do a flea check on the boys. If I see a flea I just give it a quick spray, once is good, the flea is dead in about 10 seconds. No more trying to pick the flea off and loosing the bugger in his fur or it would end up jumping away.....No more of that..... Some one here also posted this site, I haven't tried it yet but I will, eventually.... Natural Flea Control and Tick Remedy. Official TripleSure Site. Flea and Tick I also use D.E (food grade) on their beds and on the carpet..... Buy Diatomaceous Earth to kill fleas, ticks, bed bugs and parasites naturally The cedar products are temporary when you spray it on the pet. It evaporated over time and has to be reapplied. I like it for the "spot on" killing the best........Be warned it does have a strong cedar smell. Two of my dogs tolerate it but are not thrilled but the third one hates it......... This link has some tips for killing fleas naturally.... Flea Control: Organic Beats Toxic! Cheaper Too!

I don't use D.E. on the yard for several reasons.... the yard is too large.... and the D.E. would have to be reapplied again after it rains....not good....... I tried nematodes late last summer.....I can't really give any opinions on it because I don't know what happened yet, I have read that nematodes need a yard that is more on the shadier, side, mine is in straight sun, not so good for nematodes.... I was just on a "natural" web site today and their suggestion was to get one of those jars that attach to the end of the hose, like a Miracle Grow spreader, put 2 oz. of dish soap in and fill the rest with water, then spray the lawn well once a week to kill fleas. I would imagine it would work better if it was done after a rain or a watering with the sprinkler to get the yard wet first so the soapy water doesn't get absorbed too fast. ...I'm intrigued and may give it a try in a week or so....I just don't know why soap would kill them, when it would only be in direct contact with them for a few seconds.......Oh well, it's worth a try...... I also found this but I couldn't find any reviews on it to see if it was a joke..... Holistic Family & Pet Products - Flea & Tick Collars If anyone has found a yard solution that works please share........If we can get to the root of the problem, which is the yard, then the dogs become a non issue.......
